good ol plain sushi, very reasonable prices, fresh fish, good sushi place, great food, jampacked scallop rolls, bad service
No-nonsense no-frills sushi in the real authentic Japanese style.
If you've ever wondered how decent sushi is supposed to taste like then go to Noshi Sushi. This is one of the only no-gimmick sushi places I know in Southern California. They serve sushi how it's served in Japan with a simple menu with simple dishes. You won't find Rainbow Rolls, Manhattan Beach Rolls, or other multicolored American born sushi here! The prices are CRAZY LOW too. The most expensive item on the menu is $10. We ordered three full sized dishes, a couple beers, and a few assorted nigiri and the bill barely broke $40. This place is awesome. The $3 Asahi is awesome!
Take it from a Japanese guy that has a very spoiled tongue.
The sushi isn't the best at Noshi Sushi but for the price nobody else comes close.
Sushi served to an eclectic crowd with time to burn..
In Short
Inside this sushi bar, red pleather booths are framed by stucco arches. At the bar, four chefs work in silent synchronicity. The crowd represents everyone from Westside SUV drivers to local punks, with a few diaper bags in between. For starters, there's miso soup and dynamite, a baked scallop mixture with mayonnaise. Fish dishes include yellowtail belly and smoked salmon. As a sushi alternative, chicken teriyaki is served with iceberg lettuce and French dressing.
Dependable Noshi. Have been coming year since the early 90's. Ambience-wise, it looks kind of like a converted coffee shop, but who cares? The sushi is always good and the price is very reasonable. Don't expect any creative rolls. Everything is pretty basic here, which is fine by me. I love the albacore salad and the spicy tuna is the best in town! Be forewarned - it's cash only, they stop serving at 9 pm and they don't take reservations.
overrated. sorry, but this isn't that good. read the reviews, expected a lot. overpriced. tempura was not fried enough, edemame (sp?) was warm and soft. really not impressed.
What happened?.
I've been coming to this place for over 10 years. At least once a week. Lately, the sushi tasted fishy and the texture felt thawed. I thought that it was only a fluke so I came back 3-5 more times and it was consistently BADDDDDD!!! What happened? I'm very disappointed. I USED TO LOVE THIS PLACE!!! It's too bad, because everyone is so friendly. The price is pretty good. You get FREE miso soup & hot green tea.
My rating is F - (minus)...sorry Noshi
Yum!. Based on the reviews here, I went on a limb and tried this place. Awesome find, fresh fish and good service. This place is not a trendy and chic but if it's good quality sushi you are looking for you should check out Noshi Sushi. The spicy tuna rolls are excellent and the scallop rolls were delicious as well.
get the spicy tuna rolls. these are the best spicy tuna rolls i can remember.
Good Place Gone Bad? Hope Not.. I'd visited here a couple of times recently and the fish were not that fresh. The "hamachi nigiri" tasted like it was a little cooked or left out for a while and it was kind of dry, then it daunted on me that it was due to a 'thawing' process; in other words, the sushi were not fresh and had came out from the freezer. This has happened twice in a 2 months period, maybe just my luck? I always liked Noshi and have been "paying their rent" here for over 10 years and felt quite guilty by reporting this. But being said, after all these years; I am the one who's spending the bucks here. *Probably* will return less often.
Love the sushi..
Well, reading most of the recommendations here I decided to try the sushi. LOVED IT! I'm soo tired of all these creative rolls out there... what ever happened to good ol' plain sushi. Well I found that here! The food was great, I would recommend the albacore tuna salad... not on the menu but I think they can make it. They made it for me... and it was soo good.. I mean I've never had this before anywhere else. The fish was great if you like dynamite.. they have killer dynamite as well as spicy tuna rolls.
I really don't go to a restaurant for its decor.. I'm sorry for those that do.. I actually go for the food and that's it. So if you're looking for good old fashion sushi/sashimi.. then this place is it. Be warned though: CASH ONLY.
MY FAVORITE SUSHI PLACE!!!.
this is my FAVORITE sushi place!!!
the food's awesome, the people who make the sushi are attentive and serve you promptly.
i'd totally recommend this place to EVERYONE!
the only thing i have to say against noshi sushi is that they only accept cash. imagine my surprise when i went with two dollars and my cards. luckily, my friend had enough cash. anyway, other than that, you're going to fall in love with this place!!!
