Spicy and Seafood - 2 of my favorite things! – This place was great. Went on a friday night and my experience with service was great. I got spicy seafood dish and it was soo good. Not oily at all... yum. I love that spicy green sauce too. I will definitely be back. I think the highlight was the cusquena peruvian lager. Yum!
Poor Service, Long Waits, Flies, and a Flying (read review)! – This is the first, and might be the last review I do of any place. I felt so inclined to write one because of the poor experience I had at Don Felix. It was the second time going. The first time I went the service was rather slow for an afternoon visit. The second time was just a disaster. The service was slow. (Probably due to the fact that there are only two waiters, they would be better off adding a third or fourth) The wait for food was long. (Or maybe the food was ready just not enough hands to bring it.) There was a fly on the wall for most of our time there. To top it off, I had an inch long 'something' land on my shoulder. I'm not kidding about it either. My girlfriend alerted me to it, and I scattered (being the wimp that I am). One of the two waiters came by to squash it under the table. They did not even offer to pick up any part of the bill until I requested they do so. For my trouble, they took off the cheapest dish we ordered, an appetizer. I am not one to bad-mouth a place, but I felt cheated by my experience at this restaurant, and thought I would let others know so they too do not have to deal with somethings landing on their shoulders. I would like to add a few comments about the owners who seem to be there all the time, but I think this would be enough to dissuade anyone from attending this establishment. If you're looking for a better place, check the 818 area code, for I'd post the name, but I'm not here to advertise another place, but to share my poor experience at Don Felix. The something was a hcaor backwards. They did not let me type it.
A good first exposure, I guess – Went there after hearing rave reviews for years, to show some friends how yummy traditional Peruvian can be... I was less than proud. As someone who grew up eating Peruvian cuisine everyday (Peruvian family), this place was disappointing. Portions are not big, just the white rice part. The food is too greasy-- Peruvian doesn't have to be oily. The prices were too high for the quality of food delivered. It's a good place to get exposed to Peruvian cuisine, but if you want to savor the complete expanse, you'll have to go somewhere else, that is more down home cooking (which is what Peruvian is supposed to be). And the forced Valey parking with tip, is just tacky. As a Peruvian, I would recommend trying other places after going here once.
The place for good Peruvian food! – We have been coming here for years. The prices have slowly gone up in recent years but still a good value. This restaurant was featured on ABC7 Elmer Dill's Best Restaurants Under $10. Anyways, we always get "Spaghetti with Beef" or "French Fries with Beef" (sorry I don't remember the spanish names) but it's #23 and #24. The seafood dishes and ceviches are also good.
