In Short – Founded in 1948, In-N-Out locations are known for their eye-catching yellow-arrow logo and spic-and-span red and white interiors. The streamlined menu includes fries, beverages and three types of hamburgers. These all-beef burgers are topped with fresh vegetables and Thousand Island-like dressing on griddled buns with optional American cheese; fries--oversized potatoes with the skins still on--are dunked in cholesterol-free cottonseed oil until just the outsides are done.

When I moved to LA people kept asking me if I had been to In-N-Out. They were raving about it. So I finally went, and I honestly had no idea what the hype was all about. Small burgers, expensive for this type of food, and the taste was nothing special. I've had better burgers at the big chains, and you can certainly find a better burger at just about any burger joint. I won't be going back, but this place does have a following.
- Pros: Would get you in the in-crowd
- Cons: Average food
