Fantastic Sushi. This was the best sushi bar I've ever been to. You won't want to go to another place, I guarantee it. The only thing you need to know is the chef will choose your meal for you but it's definitely worth it. I drive 30 miles away just for dinner. Try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed!!

Quite Satisfied. It was nice to find a place that serves sushi as traditionally as they possibly can outside of Japan.

The menu could use a bit more selection, and after only picking 8 plates of 2 pieces each we walked out with a $40 bill.

The fish on the sushi was very fresh, and the atmosphere was cozy with about 7 tables and the sushi bar.

Sit at the sushi bar if you're adventurous, since the chef decides what you eat.

And, you know it's good if native Japanese people are eating there, as we saw when my fiance and I went.

We give it an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Good food, okay price, good service and nice atmosphere.

Try it if you're adventurous and need a break from general sushi restaurants.

Quaint family-owned sushi joint. After living in LA with its many sushi restaurants, I tried to find a local sushi restaurant that at least served okay sushi. I was more than happy with the atmosphere, service, and best of all, the quality of the delicious sushi here! Love the cozy atmosphere!

Better luck elsewhere. The food:

We ordered Miso Soup, Yellowtail, Salmon, Spicy Tuna and Salmon Sashimi. The spicy tuna was good. The creamy spicy sauce was something unusual and tasty. However, both the Salmon and the Sashimi were below average in their freshness and cut. In fact the cut was quite poor for the sashimi that it pretty much ruined the fish. However, the other groups sitting next to us (these appear to be regulars at Koyo) ordered Salmon and had visibly better cuts than we'd received. The same applied to the Yellowtail, which simply was not fresh. I can't compare it to what others received because no one else at the bar ordered yellowtail.

The service:

It was not prompt and uneven. Regulars who arrived later than us first displaced us to a crowded corner of the bar where we couldn't even stretch our arms. Then they received their orders before we were served, even though of they arrived much later. From their point of view, I would say they received very good and prompt service. We're not sure whether this part is considered the insult or the injury. We finally got our miso soup 45 minutes after we ordered our fares and after we were already served the sushis and sashimi.

I would not recommend this restaurant unless you're already a friend of the chef. Instead, head to Rokuan in Chino Hills where the service is professional and the sushis are fresh. Or, better yet, try Hayakawa in Covina for one of the best Japanese culinary experiences east of Downtown LA.

Best Sushi spot ever!. I'm not too fond of sushi myself, but my husband loves it. So I was determined to find the best of the best. We've been to many sushi bars/resturants before, but this place was by far the best!

Like I said, I don't like sushi, but Hiro (the chef) made me some sushi he knew I would truly love. The blue crab roll was the best. I suggest everyone who goes there order it. The whole thing just melts in your mouth with ever bite. The shrimp rolls are good too. With just a hint of wasabi spread under the shrimp and rice, it goes great dipped in soy sauce. Even the California rolls are different from your ordinary sushi bar. Hiro uses real crab meat. No immitations here. Top your meal off with a ice cold japanese beer and your set!

TRUST HIRO HE KNOWS WHAT YOU LIKE. Hey everyone, me and my wife were looking for the best and we found it.

Forget all those other chain restaurants and all you can eat places, Hiro is the "MASTA" when it comes to sushi, providing you with nothing but the best cuts and the most tasty freshest oysters I have ever eaten......and that secret sauce of his, goes great with an ice cold brew. And something we never expected was his sense of humor "HIRO HAD US ROLLING ON THE FLOOR" this was the best dinner we have ever had. THIS IS OUR NEW SPOT FOR SUSHI,WE WILL NEVER LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE AGAIN. (you have to try the BLUE CRAB ROLL it's very delish!) and HIRO hooked me up with some salmon skin rolls that just made me want to keep eating, their toasty outer skin and that soft melt in your mouth meaty inside was just OUTSTANDING.

The Best Sushi. I have eaten sushi in many different restaurants and i have to say that this family owned restaurant has got to be the best. I have gotten to know the chef personally and found that he goes to the fish market to hand pick his own fish. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and have not found a better sushi restaurant yet. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a traditional sushi restaurant to dine at. I personally recommend the butterfish and the blue crab hand roll. they are to die for.

Excellent Sushi in Diamond Bar. Trust Chef Hiro. He's the only person behind the sushi counter. This wise cracking sushi chef is entertaining, and he knows how to serve good tasting sushi. This hidden gem serves the basics. No Rainbow rolls served here. With the quality of the sushi, you don't need those rolls.
