The Scene
The Chicago location is one of three; the others are in Evanston and Highland Park. Racks of gear and equipment fill the space, tents hang from the ceiling, and a Jeep is parked in the back. Salespeople know their polypropylene from their Gore-tex, because they're all outdoorsy folks themselves.

The Goods
Whether you need gear for a mountain climbing expedition, a warm coat and boots for the winter or a duffel bag for your kids' sleepaway camp trip, you'll find it. And if you don't know what you need, the staff can guide you and suggest appropriate items for your skill level--and budget. A good selection of outerwear for men, women and children is available for most sports. The store also carries guidebooks and luggage. If you don't see what you need, ask for a special-order--customers are under no obligation to buy anything ordered for them.
