worst old sushi, mushy unagi, friendly staff, great maintenance sushi, warm yellowtail sashimi, fast service, worst yellow sashimi
Great Place for Sushi.
I normally dont write reviews but after reading askoksana's review, I had to respond. So you didn't like their sushi, but reordered again 7months later? Hmm, you're the one who seem fishy too me. I ve been eating at Maki Yaki for over 2 years and their sushi/food has always been fresh and their staff has always been friendly. I also get to actually see the fish that is being prepared for me and could see if they are fresh or not, unlike Sushi Delivery USA where the frigerator showcase for the fish is hidden from my view and can't see how my sushi is being prepared or what I'm being fed.
For good sushi/terriyakis (especially their beef ) at a reasonable price Maki Yaki is a place to try out, I was scared to try it out at first because of their huge menu board, thought it be like those fast food sushi places where they hide their fishes and have so so sushis, but I 'm glad I did and have been a big fan of their food for the past 2 years.
Great maintenance sushi. This is the place to go when you have to get your sushi on and don't have a lot of money to spend! I have been coming here for 3 years and NEVER had a problem with any of their fish. It is always fresh, the staff is friendly and the service is fast!!!! I live less than 10 minutes away and when I call in my order, the food is ready when I arrive. They have always bagged the soup seperately so it doesn't heat up the sushi. I am really picky about my Unagi and their Unagi is really yummy, not fishy or mushy. Don't know what happened the night the unhappy guy went but in 3 years I have always been happy. (And I live right across the street from Sushi Delivery and after going there ONCE, I will never be back. Nasty! But that's another review altogether.)
Vile, spoiled fish, rude staff, a prescription for disaster. This is the worst sushi we have ever had. We get sushi delivered weekly from Sushi Delivery in Valley Village, they were closed so we tried Maki Yaki. The sashimi, the sushi combos, tempura & hot miso soups were all crammed into the same delivery bag, so the sushi arrived room temperature & the sashimi was actually warm. Much of the sushi was dull (a sign that it is not fresh). The tuna was bright, lolly pop pinkish red (a sign that it has been treated with carbon monoxide to make old tuna look fresh). But, the worst was the yellow sashimi which was warm. I put it into the fridge. We ate the sushi & it was truly awful. I was afraid to eat the yellow tail. The next day, I took the (now cold) sashimi out of the fridge & it smelled bad. I called the restaurant & they blew off my complaint. I insisted upon a refund, just for the sashimi, they promised to call back, but never did. I called the Health Dept., they fined them for poor refrigeration & other violations.
is it good?. i don't eat sushi very often, and maki yaki was the first time i had ever tried it. it won me over...overall, i think sushi is too overpriced for what you get. too hyped up.
