best vietnamese food, highly recommend vietnamese place, best pho, delicious egg rolls, great customer service, great fried spring rolls, best overall vietnamese restaurant
The best spring rolls you will ever have in your life and I DO NOT SAY THAT LIGHTLY. Their pho is legit too. Oh and get the limeade to drink--it's amazing.
Brave the line--you will be rewarded with crispy fried spring rolls and some of the best soup in SGV. I like #26, wonton soup with bbq pork.
Foodies and Vietnamese ex-pats fill this tiny eatery for some of the most authentic grub this side of the globe..
In Short
Although it's hidden in the back of a strip mall a few blocks from the busy 10 freeway, this restaurant is easily found by following the folks who rush out of their recently parked cars to get ahead of those who pulled in next to them. Once inside, the minimally decorated single dining room, steaming bowls of pho soup, slippry vermicelli noodles with peanut sauce, and boiled meats are placed in front of neighborhood families and anyone who enjoys an eating pilgrimage.
How is there ONLY 18 reviews for this place??. Golden Deli is hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant in the entire LA area. Possibly the world!! Ok no I wouldn't go as far as to say that- perhaps I'm getting a little too carried away. I've never been to Vietnam, but if I had, I'd probably still be Golden Deli's numero uno fan..o. This little gem of a restaurant nestled in a small plaza on Las Tunas Dr. has been a local favorite for nearly a decade since it's opening. Consistently scrumptious Vietnamese cuisine favorites like egg rolls and yummy vermicelli noodle bowls keep fans coming back for more. All I can say is- I've yet to meet a person who didn't like the food here. *For you SF dwellers, the closest I can think of as a possible comparison would be PPQ on Irving Street.* Needless to say, I highly recommend this place. Go grab lunch/dinner at Golden Deli. Now. Did I mention that the food here is cheap as heck?? Yes, go now.
Disagree, not the best and Too much MSG!!!. I have been to this restaurant several times couple years ago, but everytime after eating there I had to drink lots of water. They put too much MSG. I had better Pho elsewhere. There are 2 kinds of Pho. One is from the North and the other from the South. The one you usually eat is from the South. For the Pho (South version) please try Noodle City in Alhambra, Pho Ha in Rosemead, Pasteur in Rosemead, or Pho Hien Mai in El Monte. For the Pho (North version) please try 101 Bakery in Monterey Park. So far this is the only place I know that has Pho Bac (Bac means North). It is more expensive compare to the south version, but it is worth it. Pho Bac is not on the menu. They post this special on the wall. They also sell Pho (South version), but it is not good.
Excellent Vietnamese food!. I have gone here several times over the past 10 years or so. The food is excellent. It is not only tasty, it won't even burn a hole in your wallet! The prices are cheap for the food your getting. The wait can be long on the weekends. I recommended this place if you are in a hurry and want to save a dollars. The spring rolls are delish and Pho too!
Crunchy Eggrolls. I had the bun which is kind of like a salad. It has lettuce, vermicelli, bean sprouts, eggrolls, and charred pork. The eggrolls were pretty big. What I like about vietnamese eggrolls is that they use rice paper instead of eggroll wrappers. Rice paper makes it more crispy. Also sometimes with regular eggroll wrappers you feel you are eating too much wrapper because it is so heavy. The thinness of the rice paper eliminates the heaviness and the rice paper gives it a nice aroma.
The Rice Vermacelli (Bun)-No Pho-Yes. Went with a friend on Saturday to Golden Deli Pho. Waited about 15 minutes for a table. Egg Rolls were tasty and warm. They could have been hotter though...indication that they were left out. I had the Rice Vermacelli (Bun) with pork and the pork was cold. I prefer the pork to be hot and having it be cold pretty much tells me they left it out. Not the best Bun around. The Pho was supposedly MSG-packed and very tasty though. They also have overpriced Viet sandwiches and the Shrimp paste also looks good (if its warm).
don't bring any vegetarians. Golden Deli pretty much follows the traditional route of Viet cuisine which is that everything is stuffed with pork or beef. the closests you'll find to a vege dish at this place is at the "VegeTable" restaurant in the same strip mall. I'm sure it all tastes good but the idea of vegetarianism is alien to this restaurant, so be forewarned.
try the chicken curry!. this is by far the best vietnamese place in la! although its known for its pho and cha gio (which are both delicious!) i always get the chicken curry, the meat falls off the bone and the potatoes are stewed to perfection. ambience isn't all that, but your food comes out quickly and it will never disappoint. and the value!!! you can't beat it.
try this!. the food here is excellent! my friend recommended this place because they have the best pho, but after frequent visits and many dishes on the menu, i became hooked. everything on the menu is divine, and i highly recommend this place if you are looking for exotic food.
Best Eggrolls and Pho. I've been going to this place for over a decade. The food is consistently fresh and tasty. The egg rolls are crisp and the pork/shrimp filling is amazing. The pho and other noodle soups are light and flavorful. They always give tons of condiments (bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lime) for the soups. The service is excellent...Very nice. It is always busy, however, give the restaurant that is across the street (horizontal) a try because they serve the exact same food since the same family owns both!! It is called "Vietnam House" and it also serves 7-course beef. Plus, Vietnam House is larger and can accomodate larger parties.
