The Scene
Cassell's doesn't exactly rely on ambience to attract customers--the sterile white room is crowded with Formica tables, each equipped with a napkin dispenser and mismatched chairs. Suit-clad business types stand in line, gripping orange cafeteria trays and humming along to Neil Diamond. An autographed picture from the cast of "The Love Boat" watches over all.

The Food
Each morning, Cassell's prepares for the lunch crowd by grinding its own 100-percent USDA prime beef. Its secret weapon in the L.A. burger war, the double-broiler, cooks both sides of the burger simultaneously, trapping the juices into the invariably well-done patty. The toppings bar boasts a bevy of garnishes and homemade spreads that will ignite the unseasoned beef. Skip the fries and order fried zucchini: Lightly battered, fried in vegetable oil and served with the best ranch dressing this side of Hidden Valley.

This is hole in the wall burger joint. You can place your order with the cooks and then doctor up your burger just the way you like it with items from the condiment bar. In addition to our bugers we also got an oder of fried zuccini which I was surprised at how good they were - but i guess you cant go wrong with friend food. I will go back when craving a burger, its close to my work in Korea town.

I grew up with this place, and I remember Mr. C. himself when he and his wife ran the place, I wonder if they still have the best ham sandwich on the planet. I remember watching him make the burgers and the ham's as well. The tuna was also out of t his world. My office was on WIlshire and Vermont in the 60's, and it was the best place going then, and is still outstanding.

I tried a cheeseburger here. I like the condiment bar with leaf lettuce, beefsteak tomato slices, onion slices, horseradish potato salad and homemade mayonnaise. As far as taste, it didn't seem to be any better or worse than most burgers I've had. This place may have seen its heyday back in the 1970s, but I think it's past its prime.
