An Honest Review From An Employee's View.
I wanted to write a very honest Review here of my experiences working at Hands to Hold. First of all, those cute little blue boxes that they "claim" are all "brand-new" tools is not a true claim at all...the assistants recycle the pumice bars, files, brushes, toe guards....everything in the box is recycled and by no means "new". Encino offers you your own Catalogued Box but you will have your brushes, pumice bars, files, etc...all recycled and cleaned/traded out to make things look "new" for you. And the Techs use their own personal cuticle snippers/etc.,(so please get it out of your head that your tools are being used only on you! This is NOT true!!). I never saw *any* of the Techs sanitize their Tools between clients; they just took them at the beginning of the day and got to work, and put them back in the sanitizer solution at the end of the day. Also, Politics play a huge part in both Locations: Get on the bad side of the Owners or Managers, and a Tech would not receive as many Turns as another, or receive a Turn involving a lower-priced Service (Manicure, polish change, etc.) Being a Receptionist/Ass't, I worked a 10-hour plus Day w/o the breaks lawfully required by State Labor Laws and was not paid proper Overtime as well to compensate for the violations. I left of my own accord for those reasons alone...the politics, the break issues, the fact that not all was "what it seemed", how some Techs made Bank while others barely got by. The best thing that came out of this experience? I am now going to School myself to open my own Salon where I promise to treat all workers fairly, following all State Laws, and not following politics and favoritism. I have a feeling the Owners will probably read this Review and call me an ex-employee scorned, but I have spent most of my life in supervisory positions and do not believe in anything but fair and equal treatments of all employees, following all State Laws as required.
Cheers!!
Best nail salon in the valley!. If your looking for a nail salon hands to hold is the place to go, the salon is newly remodeled, clean, great staff that speak english and actually understand when you talk to them!!
Worth the drive!. I used to find myself in Sherman Oaks quite often and found this salon next to the Hamburger Hamlet. It always looks busy, so I KNEW that was a good good sign because I know about the picky peanut-butters that live in the valley! Individual boxes with our own tools (except for cuticle nippers-I do see medical type santitizing 'ovens', but bring your own if you are really concerned) and the front desk service was a bonus in my book. I don't get there too often now and when I'm sitting somewhere else closer to me while someone distractedly rubs my forearms and tries to hard sell extra products I long to get on the 101 and head back to Hands to Hold. Sonya is awesome too-she does my brows there and is fast, efficient and thorough!
