The Scene
Both flea market veterans and unseasoned new-comers are impressed by the selection of quality furniture and accent pieces at this Santa Monica Airport antiques market. The upscale vendors assemble entire rooms - like an immaculately decorated kitchen scene with table settings, vases and curtains - as shopper-friendly displays to help customers visualize items working together in a living space.
The Goods
Although jewelry and small decorations are available, these vendors do not clutter their tables with trinkets. Instead they focus on larger, quality antiques with staple pieces like natural wood tables, painted cupboards and carved bureaus. Though there may be room for negotiation, prices on particularly unique items can be high. A set of 1940s leather armchairs from France can cost $3,900. Tantalizing specialty stands - featuring bejeweled sari skirts, Chinese antiques, old golden-edged books and bright African beads - also offer distinct odds and ends.
