great place, always interesting crowd, friendly bartenders, great music, unique vibe
Red Cross-chic lounge injects sleepy Mar Vista with live music, dancing and sexy nurses..
The Scene
This novel nightclub is a refreshing addition to the otherwise too-cool or too-divey Westside bar scene, and kitschy enough to make the hot spot/hospital scheme work. Patients walk through the amber-lit entryway and over to the pharmacy bar, complete with a neon Rx sign above it and a row of first-aid kits nailed to the adjacent wall. In the main room, scenesters slack on oddly shaped chaise lounges under funky, amorphous light fixtures, while others shoot pool on one of two tables. Alt-rock bands and sick dance music DJs take the hipster-cratic oath to man the small stage or the club's discreet turntables. A small, enclosed street patio is provided for smokers.
The Draw
Dressed-down locals get their weekly dosage of grooves here, and visitors from outside the neighborhood are drawn by everything from punk legends like Lee Ving to Argentine hip-hop dance nights.
