You'll be back – Good food is hard to find, and Charlie's Trio is one rare places that offer italian in an area that has few other options than oriental food (not saying that asian food is not appetizing, but sometimes you can be in the mood for different). Usually a local spot for patrons of the San Gabriel Valley, you can come in looking for a good meal without the travel, traffic, and parking nightmares that usually come when dinning in Los Angeles. Whether you go in with a date, family, or friends, it has an easygoing atmosphere that is either great for lunch or dinner.
I have been coming to this place for years and years now and I am still treated with the same quality service as if it were a first time customer. Don't be afraid to order a drink with your meal, for they have a good wine selection as well as a knowledgeable bartender. I really can not speak of all the delicious plates I have tried there, but my favorites are the caesar salad, shrimp scampi, chicken alfredo, bbq pizza. All are worth trying. The only thing I advise at either location is to make reservations on the weekend. It helps them and you for promoter service.
Best Italian Restaurant – My husband?s favorite food is Italian, and this is his favorite restaurant, we have tried many others, but we always come back to Charlie?s. Going there, I feel like in family, my favorite dishes are the Southwest Pasta w/ Chicken, Chicken Marsala & Chicken Florentine. Their menu prices are very reasonable and their wine list is acceptable (prices very reasonable too). We have never had any bad service, and we have been going there for about 6 years now. One time I order something and I missed to read where it said that it was fried (I don?t like deep fried food) and I did not eat it, the waiter came and ask if there was something wrong with my food, and I just said, I didn?t know it was fried, but that it was ok, since it was my fault. When he gave us the check, he did not charge for my plate. Weekends are crowded sometimes, but that?s the normal almost everywhere. Try Chalie?s Trio, you won?t be disappointed.
BAD SERVICE!! HORRIBLE ATTITUDE!! – The first few times I dined at Charlie's Trio were just OK. Food was decent but services were slow, considering it's a small restaurant, i don't know how they can delay a simple appetizer (fried calamari) for 30 minutes. Last time I was, my friends and I were waiting 20 minutes for a table, even though half of the tables were empty. The hostess said they have to set up the table before seating us. Another 5 minutes went by, I asked a server at the register how long do we have to wait for our table. He replied "THREE HOURS". It was extremely inappropriate for him to joke with a customer who's been waiting for her table for almost half an hour. Even though the manager offered to comp the entire meal, my friends and I decided not to eat there because the servers were not being genuine and sincere. A good dining experience is not only about the food but also about the people servicing you. For that matter, Charlie's Trio really messed up big time.
Real Italian food, no fancy flares! – One of the greatest original Italian eatery that cannot be missed, period! Charlie's Trio is a landmark, their food is incomparable even from Italian restaurant dominating cities like Pasadena and South Pasadena. This is the successor to their original location which is about a mile and a half away borderlining Los Angeles/South Pasadena/Alhambra. But this one is located on Main Street, right in the heart of old town Alhambra where it can get real packed on evenings and weekends. Worth the wait!
They've got the most amazing "Seafood Scampi" dish, it's filled with such immense flavor where you can just taste the whole dish throughout, not only in the linguini, but also in the seafood - it's the best I've had so far! Their trademark "Fettuccini Alfredo" with chicken is also a favorite of mine, the chicken is seasoned with salt & pepper, then, very nicely done in a creamy-style sauce with perfect consistency everytime instead of the usual dried out cheesy and buttery version compared to elsewhere. The menu is extensive ranging from Pizza, Calzones, Pastas and a whole variety of Appetizers and many other mouth-watering main dishes.
I've had my fair share of Italians in the surrounding areas, but I must say that Charlie's Trio still hold the title when it comes to true and authentic Italian cuisine, and you can't beat the service and value either!
Good food Service – The food is pretty good, sometimes the service is not so great. Inconsistent waiters sometimes do not bring bread or refills. I once ordered take-out and they forgot our bread and order was not up to par (fettucine was dry). I had to drive back and instead of the manager making it right, he insisted that the bread was in the bag (as if I ate the free bread so I could get more) and that my order was just fine. He told me I should order extra alfredo sauce next time. He fixed the order, however, I felt he was trying to belittle me for wanting my order right. Haven't been back!
Great Bartender – I treated my best friend to a night of drinks and we came to Charlie's Trio. Much better interior than the one on Huntington Blvd. The bartender was gracious and polite. We had several martini's and though it time to close, the bartender let us take our time finishing our drinks. Plus... they were going to In&Out and offered to bring us back a burger... now that's going the extra mile in Customer Service!
