THE BEST STEAK SANDWICH
by iwantthebest at Citysearch
A long time ago, ?The Sizzler? restaurants used to make one hell of a steak sandwich, but as they became modernized and changed their menu offerings to fancier non-meat entrees like ?Malibu Chicken,? etc., the steak sandwich disappeared from their menu. I?ve looked high and low for some place to come close to the steak sandwich of my youth. Many times, I?d been disappointed?the steak was too thin, too lean, too chewy, too bland or too well done. And it was served on a potentially soggy, thin piece of bread with dry, shredded lettuce and a thinly-cut tomato. But EUREKA! I have finally found it at Twohey?s Family Restaurant in Alhambra, CA, a place that has been in business since 1943. Their steak sandwich is made of one (8-ounce?) 1/2-inch thick, juicy, perfectly seasoned New York Sirloin Steak served with leafs of cold iceberg lettuce and thick tomato slices on a grilled mini-French baguette. Oh, every bite of this steak sandwich is delicious and mouthwateringly juicy! (As a personal preference, I NEVER order my steak to be cooked "well done" and I like to spread a little mayonnaise on the inside of my baguette for both flavor and to act as a ?barrier? against having the bread get too soggy from the meat juices and then falling apart in my hands.) The steak sandwich plate comes with a crunchy, fresh pickle spear and your choice of Twohey?s trademark ?freshly-fried Hot Potato Chips? (the BEST homemade, non-greasy potato chips I?ve ever eaten!) OR French fries for less than $9.00.

- Pros: Excellent value for your money. Good service.
- Cons: Competing for parking spaces against In-N-Out Burger customers in small parking lot.
Last great family restaurant!

This is way better than the typical Denny's or IHOP. The food served here is much more tastier and most importantly - cleaner! A great menu variety and a pleasurable dining experience. The only lacking compare to the latter was, they closed at midnight too soon!
- Pros: clean, parking, location
Sundaes !

Their burgers are delicious and the atmosphere is friendly and pleasant. Their sundaes are the best.

Comfort food

For food like soup, meat loaf, pot roast, coconut cream pie and ice cream sundaes (the bittersweet chocolate is beyond amazing), you can't beat Twohey's! It's the ultimate in comfort food. Service can be spotty, however.
- Pros: easy parking, ice cream sundaes, casual
- Cons: uneven service
