Slow service and average food – Went for take out midweek and it took over an hour to get my order. The restaurant was only half full but they were understaffed and just ridiculously slow. And it's not that cheap. More expensive than other nearby Thai places like Noodle World and Thai Paradise.
The food wasn't bad, but nothing great. Went with the Pad See Ew, Tom Kha Shrimp and Orange Chicken. The soup was below par and the Orange Chicken was kind of soggy. Pad See Ew was fine. Won't be going back.
Thumbs down 4 Thai Puple – Because I was in the area I decided to give it another try. While waiting for a menu, I noticed several calls being placed for orders for pick up. Although the establishment has interesting decor and feels inviting, the service just sucked. There were three other couples in the resturant but I was never asked once if I wanted a refill of water. The gal who took my order brought out a thai tea instead of regular iced tea and the food just didn't taste the same to me. Another table had a problem communicating with the waitress as to what they desired for lunch. I tried to make the most of my meal but what really put made the experience bitter was the fact that they would not accept my 20 dollar bill, claiming it was a fake! There are several other Thai options to choose from so next time I'll just eat somewhere else.
Editorial Review – Inexpensive Thai eatery specializes in curries, including traditional mussamun, plus mainstream favorites like pad Thai and barbecued chicken.
thai food for a good price – Get home made thai food for a great price. Dishes are around $8-10 and they are good portions. You can share with family members for family style eating. Location is between two busy streets and there is easy access. Restuarant is a good size where I never had to wait for a table. Atmosphere is relaxing and does not get loud, so you can have an intimate meal with someone. Surrounding area is becoming more busy and has the feel of old town pasadena. You can have an enjoying walk down main street or go to the movies across the street.
Yum yum thai – My husband and I love this restaurant. I will say, though, that certain items are AMAZING and other items are just ordinary. So, we tend to order the same dishes and they are fabulous!
Here are our picks:
Chinese broccoli (kana) with beef (So much better than other at other thai restaurants),
Tom Yum or Tom Ka Gai (AMAZING soups; great for a cold),
Orange chicken (Sounds strange at a thai restaurant, but their orange chiken is the BEST ever)
Mint Leaf Chicken (Ask for it with ground chicken), and
Pad See Ew.
GREAT SPICY FOOD! – the menu is extensive, and for those with a spicy palette, this restaurant will be right up your alley!
Great place to visit before a movie. – I've been to Thai Purple several times. This restuarant is conveniently located directly across from the Regal theatres in Alhambra. Surprisingly, its not as crowded as some of the other eating establishements nearby. The food however is fantastic. Seems like each time I enjoy it even more. The meals are very tasty and presented very well.
The service is a tad slow. Theres usually 2-3 waitresses working on any given day. You have to flag down a waitress to get help. Once your order is taken, your meals arrive pretty fast. Theres not a long wait to get your dish.
generous size, yummy, great service – I've been here many times and I always have a great time here. The food come in large portion compare to those restaurants in Thaitown and it's still very tasty also. The funny thing is I love orange chicken here even it's not really Thai though but every restaurant has it nowsday, their orange chicken is the best I've ever have so far. Pad see ew, Pad Thai and Pad kee mao is good too. The service is prompt and their staffs are kind and helpful.
Just another Thai restaurant – I remember the food here used to be very good. We visit there a second time about a year later and it just wasn't very "Thai" in terms of taste. The biggest disappointment was that they were trying to be creative and screwed up the Tum Yum Shrimp by adding huge cubes of tomatoes in the soup which is a no no, it completely killed the taste, I thought I was having tomato-fish soup (found more in Vietnamese delicacies). I haven't have the guts to go back after that, so I'm not sure how it is now. The service was good, but I mostly rate food. They do have an advantage being the only Thai restaurant in its location, which is a busy developing "Old Towne Pasadena" like strip.
HORRIBLE – I did not enjoy my dining experience at all. The food was not very good. I am normally a big supporter of small joints but this restaurant came as a huge disppointment. The service was very good though and the prices were very inexpensive. But in this case, you are paying for what you're getting.
