Best Chicken Rice. Its hard to add to what everyone has already said about this place.

But for the money, it is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. The food was delicious. My pumpkin soup was to die for. I only got 3 courses and it filled me up. I thought the price was so good for the quality of food and service we got.

A new twist on an old time favorite.. Having read the one negative review here regarding the Hainan Chicken Rice at Savoy, I feel it necessary to point out that, while far from a "traditional" Hainan Chicken Rice, it is still incredibly tasty, and excellent flavor should never be neglected due to the recipe being "tainted" by changing some things.

No, the chicken doesn't have yellow skin, nor is the chili the right sort. The ginger has no green onions in it, and the soy sauce isn't thick.

So if you're looking for a genuine Hainan Chicken Rice experience, then look elsewhere. If you're looking for a tasty meal at a decent price, definitely check Savoy out.

And on the note of tasty meals, the escargot and baked halibut are also quite amazing, not to mention the pizzas and pastas. I have yet to find anything on the menu that I don't enjoy.

However, if you are a vegetarian, or have vegetarian friends, Savoy may not be the best place to go. While they have a "margarita" pizza, there is little on the menu that doesn't have some form of meat in it.

Really great hainan chicken!. I really enjoyed the hainan chicken dish here. The rice was so flavorful after being cooked with chicken stock. They also give a really good amount of chicken for a very decent and affordable price. It tastes amazing after you mix it with the ginger oil, soy sauce, and hot sauce. The restaurant itself is a bit small and cramped, which can mean a long wait almost any time of the day due to its popularity. Still, I think it's worth the wait and I would definitely go back again.

WAY OVERRATED!. Wha a REAL Hainan Chicken (with rice) should be:

1. Chicken should be used with the "yellow feather", definitely not from foster farms (if you know what I mean). Not frozen and no extra fat in skin.

2. The chicken should be marinated before cooking, and should be very tender

3. "oil" rice should have excellent aroma and definitely not oiley.

4. Chili sauce should be "special made", not off the shelf ones.



After reading all the good reviews, I was excited to go to this place (from NorCal) for some good hainan chicken.......and I was very disappointed.

The place is pretty packed and service is not bad. Ordered the "famous" Hainan Chicken and also Curry Beef Stew.....

They used Foster Farms Chicken (frozen), steamed and simply put on top of the oiley (literally) rice.

Chicken is tasteless and extremely fat with skin. The reason why the rice is so oiley is because they cook the rice with all the OIL from the chicken. All you can taste is just the OIL. no flavors whatsoever.

The curry beef stew is just average. nothing special.

Service is not bad, but the food is pretty lousy.

Great Hainan Chicken in Alhambra. If you are trying to eat semi-healthy the Hainan Chicken is the way to go. The chicken is poached and served on top of chicken flavored rice. The rice & sauce is oily so I that is why I say "semi-healthy". The dish comes with two very tasty sauces - ginger & hot sauce.

Great for everyone!. Great food for everyone! Great for a quick bite or sharing a cultural dining experience with a friend or two. The restaurant is a bit small but the wait staff is efficient and friendly.

The Hanian Chicken is a traditional dish but enjoyed by all! A must have!!

Cheap, good food!. Ive been here three times and the only thing I ever get is the Hainan Chicken Rice, which is rice steamed in chicken broth and poached chicken served with a ginger sauce and a chili sauce. Theres nothing special about the chicken itself, but its the sauce that adds all the flavor. I like the ginger sauce, but they only give you a small portion of it so you need to ask for more if you want more. For the price ($5.75), you really cant go wrong. The portions are filling and the taste is great. It is a very small restaurant though so expect to wait when you get there. We usually never have to wait longer than 15 minutes.

get the Hainan Chicken Rice!!. just look at the title,i guess i don't need to say more!the curry are really really good too!its almost the same as malaysia's curry rendang!!very authentic asian food!though there's good pasta too but hey if you're asian,i truly wonder why you're not getting the chicken rice when its the best in LA! =D

Best "Hainan Chicken" ever!!. This crowded house has been in business for a long, long time and I'm sure they'll be around for as long as they keep on serving good food. One item I should strongly point out is their "Hainan Chicken" rice, man the portions are adequate and the taste is just amazing and I couldn't think of anybody that can make this better than them! I only go there for that, the priced item cost a bit more compare to elsewhere, but you won't get it as good as here. The drawback: they closed on Sundays???

A small gem in Alhambra. Savoy is so tiny that it could not seat more than 20 people, but everything they serve is right on the money. Good quality food at very reasonable prices!
