A kosher dairy alternative next door to Jeff's Gourmet Sausage and Deli, patrons line up at the counter to order pretzels, quiches and crispy pizza pockets hot out of the brick oven. – In Short
Closer to a pizza parlor than a traditional bakery, this Kehilla-kosher storefront serves up Israeli versions of classic European dishes. Out of the piping hot brick oven, pita pocket "toastees" and giant Jerusalem bagels come smothered in tomato sauce with melted feta or mozzarella cheese. Along with these pizza sandwiches, calzone-style sambusaks and small quiche-like pies also make the Hebrew/English counter menu. Glass cases at the front display pretzels, rugelach and other pastry treats for dessert. With a strong cheese menu, the orange-walled restaurant provides a welcome dairy feast option for those not in the mood for meat.
Classic, quality Israeli cuisine – Authentic Israeli-style pizzas and pastries are served at this Pico bakery and cafe. I love their toastees, a crispy cross between a bagel and a pita pocket smothered with sauce and cheese. The restaurant is kosher dairy, so no meat products are served here. Also, the place gets particularly crowded on Saturday nights after the Jewish Sabbath ends.
