I wanted to take my visiting brother and sister out to a nice, local (i.e., less than 5-min drive from my home) breakfast spot. I was tired of Paradise Cove Beach Cafe (or whatever it's called nowadays), so I thought we'd try The Hideaway. The menu promised real maple syrup with the french toast. I've been buying maple syrup since I graduated from college and now for my kids because we can't stand that Log Cabin or corn syrup fakery. The french toast was not bad, but that syrup resembled maple syrup in color only. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she had the nerve to say, "No, it's real maple syrup." I demurred. She insisted. My sister and brother's meals were okay, kind of resembling what people buy frozen and heat up in a MW, toaster or toaster oven. (At least that's what they said after I kept asking, and they were being polite.) Save your pennies and buy a delicious breakfast at Lily's (on Pt. Dume near Wamu) and eat it al fresco at the beach.

Living in malibu we are limited to restaurant choices. I used to go to the Hideaway Cafe a couple of years ago but the managment was horrible and the staff seemed unhappy. I have heard rumors that the new owners were ambitious young women that attended every customer with a smile so i decided to give the another chance... I was pleasently suprised to experienced a lovely dinner. The view was beautiful, the food was delicious and the whole staff was very caring and attentive. Im glad to have found Malibu's best kept secret!!! Give them a chance and you too will be surprised!

I went there at a late afternoon on a Wednesday. The joint was sparsely populated but there was a good vibe though. The view over Malibu and the sunset was really nice and perfected the cozy atmosphere. Tables were covered with white and green table cloths which reminded me at a hospital's emergency room. We only ordered tea and coffee, though it was enough to realize that the restaurant's tableware was totally worn-out. A white coffee cup had dark coffee stains outside and looked very worn. Nobody worries about the table wear here, as this is the place to enjoy the company of a special person, have a business lunch or a cozy after work dinner. Service was a friendly.
