Best cheap indian on westside.
CULVER CITY GEM:
Fantastic veggie restaurant. No ambience and no service, but can you possibly beat the price? It's very authentic, and most of the time, you'll only find people of Indian or Pakistani people eating here -- which is a fantastic sign. Chowhound worthy.
Culver City - Best south indian food in town. Been going here for the last couple of years. Definitely recommended for the south indian food - their "Special" includes your choice of dosa (I get the paper masala - light, crisp and delicious) and idli/vada. Their chutneys are consistently good, the sambhar varies, but still, no other place in town comes close - only other option is to drive all the way out to Artesia Not tried the buffet, but seems to be popular as well. Service could be better.
Culver City locale service DEFICIENT. I haven't visited any of the other locations, but was excited when this place popped up on Venice Blvd. I have been there twice to eat, and recieved such bad service that I decided to opt for take-out only. Well, if you can get them on the phone, good for you. But after continually patronizing this place a handful more times I can tell you that it is not worth the hassle. The waiter who grudgingly helped me was either overworked, or annoyed - either way, I don't care. They need to learn how to treat customers with just a LITTLE bit of decency. Don't bother.
Finally!. After trashing (deservedly so) a couple of LA County Indian restaurants, I can finally write something pleasant about my favorite cuisine on planet Earth. Annapurna restaurants (I think there are 3 or 4 of them, but I only visited 2: in Artesia and Culver City) serve a killer all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet! There is a great variety of dishes all of which are absolutely superb and service is very friendly. Plus, they have a special vegan buffet on the weekends with even larger selection. Also, I could not help but notice those Internet-ready flat screen computers at some tables. Wanna eat great and browse Internet for free? Go to Annapurna! I am NOT a vegetarian, but their food makes me forget I ever liked meat.
One of the Top South Indian Cuisines. This is a relatively new South Indian restaurant in "Little India" on Pioneer Blvd. in Artesia. Being of Indian origin myself, I've found Annapurna and nearby Woodlands to be the top South Indian cuisines in Artesia. Both are South Indian, vegetarian restaurants. Annapurna is a little more daring in their menu choices, with more dishes with onion and garlic and other more experimental dishes like the Annapurna Special Uthappam. The food is very good, especially the Idli, Dosa, and Vada. The atmosphere is "Silicon-Valley-Indian" with high-end plasma displays and even internet access at some tables while you wait, and service is very good.
