Editorial Review for El Guapo Mexican Cantina – by Patrick Green
The Scene
Owned by some of the same folks as the Continental in Beverly Hills, this easy-on-the-eyes Mexican cantina along the famously funky Melrose shopping strip oozes breezy, laid-back SoCal appeal. The Southwestern-style main room with roomy center-bar area is an homage to beer and ballgames, with more than 20 televisions broadcasting local and national sporting events. The spacious outdoor sundeck, featuring large umbrellas and toasty heat lamps, is perfect for laying low, day or night. Enthusiastic cuties zip around occasionally offering up free "fun shots" to a crowd of Von Dutch-sporting hipsters, boisterous sports fans and weary shoppers.
The Draw
The weekday happy hour and daily drink specials make it a good after-work spot or pre-party hang. The alcohol arsenal is loaded with south-of-the-border beers, tequilas and specialty margaritas, but the weapon of mass destruction is the 42-ounce Monster margarita.

Me and my girlfriend were shopping on Melrose today and came across Guapo this place has a cool set up with tons of tvs and 2 patios we smoke so we decided to sit up on the deck overlooking Melrose Ave. Our waitress was a pretty and sweet brunette. I had a margarita and some beers. My food was good however my girlfriend ordered a taco salad which appeared to have some sand in it so the waitress was very apolgetic and we ordered a quesidella which was good. The crowd was normal LA/Melrose. Overall I would and will come back. They were setting up something for a radio station and the waitress told us about cinco de mayo party and I will try my damnest to make it given I don't pass out from a drunken stupper before than.
Pros: lots of tvs, smoking patios, great service
Cons: none yet

All I can say is THE HELL WITH DISNEYLAND! Head your lil booty on down to 7250 Melrose Avenue to El Guapo Mexican Cantina! Not only is it the only bar in Hollywood, famous celebs are there all day long! With David Spade and Nicole Richie walking about, and that manager actor who was on numerous tv shows, I don't know how the paparazzi doesn't just sit outside by that badass fountain that I had a pool party in last summer- make sure the lifeguard is on duty! They have this terrific little firecracker of a bartender named Alison and she is like hot chocoloate by a the fireplace on a stormy night. I also love their singing bartender Jackie- he is like playing scrabble with your family and have jiffy pop on Christmas Eve! What great food and drinky drinkies. My only suggestion is making a trapped door for Dell to fall through so I don't have to listen to his piercing cackle...Two thumbs up!!!!!
Pros: Allison, Jackie
Cons: Dell
