Tips for Sears

June 20, 2008

Value-minded shoppers flock to this all-American department store for everything from sheets to new tires.. In Short
Founded in 1893 by Richard Sears, this well-known brand has come to symbolize consumer trust and value. In addition to selling appliances and electronics, Sears repairs major brands (no matter where purchased) in-home or in-store. Do-it-yourselfers can purchase parts or stock up on the exclusive Craftsman tool line. The auto department offers tire, brake, oil change and shock services. A wide range of clothing, jewelry, gifts, housewares, computers, toys and sporting goods is also available.

Most unorganized store ever!. My friend ordered a $1,800 fridge from Sears. It was delivered 2 weeks later. They put it in the living room and left. Next she wanted a water line put in so she had to have Sears come back to put the fridge in the kitchen which took over 4 hours of being on hold and told her order was closed and they could not find a record of her purchase. While on hold we drove to Sears where the manager took over and over 2 hours later we were set with an appointment. They never showed. Calling back she was again told there was no record of her purchase...etc, etc. It has been over 1 month and the fridge sits in the kitchen, not working properly, water line not hooked up and yet no record that she ever bought it. Do you want this to happen to you? Then go to Sears....

HORRIBLE Customer Service - HORRIBLE Delivery. I purchased a refrigerator from the Hollywood Sears store in September. I paid $70 for delivery, installation and leveling. It took a week to arrive and when I got home it was sitting in my living room still in its wrapping. When I called "central delivery" they had zero record of me and I spent countless hours trying to get them to help me. The operators were rude beyond belief and less than helpful. I called to the Hollywood Store repeatedly and each time the phone would ring and ring, someone would pick up and hang up. This would go on for a dozen phone calls in a row. I finally had to drive back to the store to get someone to help me. The manager arranged for delivery to come back out to install the refrigerator. The two delivery men did not speak english and when I asked them if they were going to level the refrigerator they had no clue what I was saying. As expected, my refrigerator began making a pinging noise as the fan knocks on a piece of metal - from not being balanced. I called back to Central Delivery who of course "had no record of my purchase." I called back to the Hollywood store who again repeatedly hung up when I tried contacting the large appliances department. In total I have spent at least 12 hours trying to resolve the issue and it has been five weeks. Nothing has happened. I couldn't imagine a worse experience with an organization. I will never do business with Sears again and I recommend you don't either. I'm convinced that Sears seeks out every single ignoramous on the planet and puts them on their payroll.

Avoid the Auto Department. My fiance and I visited the Auto department last July to have our car battery tested. The personnel were disrespectful to my fiance and confusing about what was wrong. The man testing the car battery first said it was ok and then said the battery needed to be replaced. When my finace asked him about this ambiguity, he was condescending to her in a sexist way. He tested the battery a second time and the battery was finally replaced. However, he was untrustworthy and disrespectful.
