view & uploadterrific friggin chile relleno, recommended highly, terrific lunch place
Antuequera de Oaxaca - small, humble, and deeee-licious..
Strange that I would be the first to write a review of this restaurant for Citysearch, as it's pretty popular among Chowhounds and Yelpies. But here I am.
For the cost-conscious Hollywood/Beachwood resident, you can do no better for Oaxacan food. This place rivals the Koreatown fave, Guelaguetza. And even beats it when it comes to my life long pursuit of the perfect chile relleno.
The chile relleno at Antequera de Oaxaca is terrific. One of the best in the city. Which is saying a lot. Or is it? The chile relleno is a dish with the potential of being a true gourmet delicacy, but which, sadly, most every restaurant on earth just squanders. Guelaguetza does a decent one. Antequera de Oaxaca does a superb chile relleno. And Mexico City in Los Feliz, when it's on the specials menu, does L.A.'s best friggin chile relleno (although it ain't cheap).
Moles, tacos, burritos, they're all good here. They don't serve booze, but it's a terrific lunch place and very easy on the wallet. (I don't know if you can bring your own wine or beer, as Guelaguetza on 8th St. allows you to do--which keeps la cuenta down even further--, but perhaps they do).
Highly recommended for the adventurous eater.
