What Our Expert Scouts Say

The Whisper Restaurant & Lounge

Great food and cocktails, but I love this place because its not too loud so you can take people that you actually want to have a conversation with. Leave your huge loud family at the the thanksgiving table!

Tips for The Whisper Restaurant & Lounge

March 29, 2010

Citysearch Editorial Review. A quiet hot spot? It might sound like an oxymoron, but Whisper Restaurant and Lounge manages to be both a peaceful refuge far from the madding crowd at the Grove and a bit of a sceney hangout for singles, couples and families taking a break from shopping. With a dark mahogany wood bar, amber-hued sconces and plush high booths, the indoor dining area evokes a 1940s speakeasy. Outside, the shaded patio beckons behind billowy curtains as the sounds of Sinatra and Billie Holliday swirl around. Considering this is a "mall restaurant," the kitchen delivers solid renditions of American and steakhouse fare. Lunch entrees range from a baby butter lettuce salad drizzled with green goddess dressing to an olive oil-poached albacore sandwich that comes with a choice of fries or mixed greens. Dinner includes chili garlic prawns and scallops, a bacon and brie turkey burger, ancho-rubbed flat iron steak and an assortment of vegetarian-friendly flatbreads.

the only place for a drink at the Grove, so u have no choice. I go there because I can walk there, otherwise I'd never be seen there. The place seems pretty popular and I'm still trying to figure out why, possible because it's the only place for a drink before or after a movie.

The food is overpriced for the quality and quantity.

The bar closes whenever it decides to so your plans could change at 9:30 when they call "last call" because they feel the night is slow.

I have spoke with 2 different bartenders and they are both friendly and on top of everything all night.....until the rush to get everyone out before 11PM.

You will be taking a risk if you choose to have dinner there, you never know if they will be out of something or if it will be anything like it was the last time you ordered it.

The decor and lighting is relaxing and sets a nice mood. This is a nice place for a drink if you are stuck at the Grove or near by but I would stick to the bar and go somewhere else for dinner.

laidback crowd, stylish setting, tasty cocktails. Enjoy a laid-back vibe, a beautiful crowd and tasty cocktails amid a stylish setting. Dominated by sultry shades like burgundy, black and gold, the sultry setting is perfected with long black curtains adorned with opulent tassels while high tables and leader upholstered stools set the scene for extensive lounging and flirting. This fashionable haunt is a real stage to see and be seen. Sit at the high stools at the bar and enjoy the view over a vibrantly chatting crowd. Order some delicious appetizers or an tasty strawberry cosmopolitan and feel like in New York.

The ONLY Place in The Grove to Settle in for Drinks and Dinner!. The night we headed to The Whisper Lounge at The Grove, I was not expecting much. I was pleasently surprised as we were greeted with a knowledgeable, friendly staff, amazing wines by the glass (priced reasonably), and solid American Fare.

Turns out the kitchen is now being overseen by the chef from the Getty, Anthony Jacquet. I recommend the Potato Fritters, Sizzling Garlic Chili Prawns, and the Hummus Plate, which we had with a glass of Catena Cabernet from Argentina. My date enjoyed blueberry Martinis, which we sipped on while relaxing on their alfresco lounge, just watching those less in the know rush by into the madness of all the shopping.

My fave Hideaway!. Food has always been excellent. Hidden and almost private atmosphere. Piano or jazz combos nightly. Bartenders friendly. Service fast. I love going here. Great date spot if you can get an open air table especially!

Tastless Food. This restaurant is incredibly cute, with a great vibe and a nice retreat from the busy Grove shopping. However, the service is not the greatest and the food is horribly bland and tasteless. We ordered the recommended grilled artichoke, it wasnt properly cooked and tasted like grease. The Steak had no flavor and neither did the whitefish or any of our sides. We had to ask our server for salt and pepper to be able to eat anything. The only upside was that our martinis were nice and strong.

Almost Perfect. This place is ideal for me...clean, quiet, not too bright and comfortable. The food is very well prepared and the service is excellent. The Cobb salad was fresh and the Portobello mushroom sandwich was fantastic. Too bad this place is in the middle of The Grove...if it was on the beach in Malibu or on a rooftop downtown it would be truly perfect.

New Yorkers love Whisper Lounge. To put it simple this is Simple A splendid place to spend quality time enjoying the ambiance, food, your family and friends. It's not an eat and run kind of place.

So Bad!. The staff so was so rude to me and my guests...We left even before we placed our order.

I have no problem telling everyione I run across to avoid this place. I will even call people I don't know and tell them to stay away. With so many places in LA...why go where they care NOTHING about the customers. Spend your money somewhere else !

Horrible Service for the Price. A large group made reservations weeks in advance to hold a special outing here. When we arrived, there was no record of the cocktail lounge reservation just the dinner reservation (how do you loose one but not the other?). We had a cake and other items we needed to store until dinner and the greeting hostess said she was about to leave her shift, couldn't help us, so we were forced to sit in the lounge and hold everything.

Once we were seated for dinner, table service was horrific and un-professional especially given their price points. Food was good but for the amount of $$$ we spent, everything should of been good, for the lounge reservation confusion, everything should of been better then good.
