My go to place for weekend coffee – I love walking here with my daughter on saturday mornings. S Beverly blvd has so many coffee options, that to win the saturday morning battle is a biggie for me. Why? Well, the outdoor patio, heat lamps and overall feel of the place just do it for me. The wait staff is helpful, particularly if are dealing with strollers and hot beverages (never a good combo). The food options are more varied than the other local coffee spots (Peet's, Starbucks, Coffee Bean)- oatmeal, french toast, soup, sandwiches, you name it
Best Vegan Chocolate Cake EVER – One slice is more than enough for two people... I eat half and don't need chocolate again for at least a week! The place is open late, which is nice, but sometimes they are OUT OF THE VEAGN CHOCOLATE CAKE late at night. So, so disappointing when that happens. Good soy lattes, too.
Limited seating, great food, cozy atmosphere – This is my favorite of the three Urth locations. It is by far the easiest to find a seat at, is the "cutest" in terms of look, feel and decor and even seems to have a more varied selection--at least of baked goods. Also, I find that the service is best at this location. All of the Urth Caffes have delicious, fresh food for prices that are not completely unreasonable. This is one of my favorite spots for a quick and simple meal later in the evening, followed by a scrumptious dessert!
decent food, horrible service – This place is ridiculous! I was soooo looking forward to sit and relax with a cup of coffee (dark and rich, really good) and biscotti. But to my dismay, my friend was not allowed to sit with me at one of their tables because she was holding food purchased at Chipotle (which was across the street). She was not allowed to sit there for even merely the time it took me to finish my food. (20 minutes). The manager rudely told me that only I could sit there and no exceptions and then proceeded to get a sign in the kitchen and waved it in my face, which said pretty much the same thing. I guess the sign was waved in my face just so I could thouroughly understand that outside food was not allowed, but come on. So if you can stand that type of service than go for it, if not. Do not go!
real cali cuisine: fresh food without the fuss – this is what cali is made of. they have great sandwiches and desserts. always save room for dessert. pricey enough that you could buy their tea and coffee for someone as a present but cheap enough to dine on a regular basis. great place to bring friends from outa town to for lunch.
Teas galore – This location is almost always crowded. The food is healthy (read bland!) but fresh. Small portions...small tables...it's best to come here for coffee or tea rather than a real meal.
It was OK – I'm not a soy type of person so one day my friends dragged me here and I tried some. I guess the drinks are pretty good. That day we saw the Olsen twins too so it's a good place to "celebrity watch"
a place to sit outside and grab some coffee – the food here is nothing special, what they're known for is their huge selection of loose-leaf teas and organic coffees. the teas come in a glass container so that you can seep them for as long as you want. it's always crowded, so if you don't mind waiting around for a seat or sitting a couple of inches away from people then this is the place for you. but there aren't that many places to sit and have some good dessert and tea outside.
Nice Place for Casual Dining....... – It's about time I wrote a review for Urth Caffe.......considering I patronize the place at least 5 times/week. The selection of entrees for breakfast is adequate......ranging from granola to omlettes. The mushroom omlette was yummy and it came with a side salad and a piece of panini. My favorite entree, by far, is the Urth Salad........mixed greens topped with cheese, garbonzo beans, pine nuts, tomatoes. I always get chicken added for an extra $3. The chicken, i must add, is cooked perfectly.....tender and flavorful. The coffee and tea selection is outstanding! And yes, their drip coffee is nice and strong! Desserts are a must as well! Service is slow, can get a little pricey and the place is busy, but it's definitely worth a visit!
Decent Food; Poor Management – My first experience at Urth: food was pretty good and I was very excited about the vegan desserts. When I got home and opened the vegan desert bread it was very molded. The management didn't offer any replacement.
Our second time to Urth we repeated 4 times to the cashier to ensure that our order (please put chicken, etc. on the side) was correct. Not only was our order completely not followed; our friends panini wasn't at all the one we ordered. We notified management after a lenghty wait to get our corrected salad and she didn't even offer to fix our friends incorrect order!
Citysearch Editorial Review – A white picket fence surrounds health-conscious Westsiders as soft world music serenades at almost the same volume as their low-key chatter. Lines often spill over onto the jam-packed front patio, but once inside, glass displays reveal giant cookies, sticky buns and a full menu of soups, salads and entrees--including many vegetarian and vegan options. Customers order at the counter and then wait for delivery by servers who move seamlessly through the cafe's hectic mix.
