American comfort food with warm and inviting atmosphere

  • Inviting bar for after work
  • Large diverse menu
  • Accommodate large parties

At one of the largest restaurants in L.A. that's still run like a mom 'n pop shop, Kate Mantilini's second location has a remarkably more modern vibe than its popular 90210 address, along with a slightly more diverse menu than the original. Owned and operated by the Lewis family since they birthed the concept in 1987, the more youthful sibling further extends Kate's idea of culinary Americana, possessing homegrown classics such as meatloaf, chicken pot pie and warm apple pie.

Tucked away in the former Houston's location, it's easy to spot remnants from a noir-ish interior that retains almost the exact decor of its darkly-lit, southwestern-styled predecessor. Offering a colossal selection of comfort foods sure to appease both old souls and young, you can taste everything from the Signature White Chili to the Eastern Shore Crab Cakes to roast prime rib.

Editorial Description for Kate Mantilini

Perhaps the lesser known sister of the original Beverly Hills location, this spacious Woodland Hills restaurant is where Valley-ites go for dressed-up comfort food like chicken pot pie and meatloaf.

After reading a couple of reviews I decided to take my mother who was visiting from out of state to Kate’s. We were greeted by a hostess, after she finished applying her lip gloss and sending a text message of course, who rolled her eyes when I requested a booth, saying “ummm, they’re all booths.” After the warm welcome I had high expectations for the food, after all with all the good reviews this place had I figured it definitely wasn’t for good service. Our waitress who looked intoxicated and slurred her speech kept twirling her hair as we tried to order some drinks. After ignoring our table (the restaurant was EMPTY by the way) for about 20 minutes, and forgetting to bring bread, the waitress finally came back and took our order. I ordered a $40 NY Strip Steak that came out looking like a $4.95 Sunday Special Steak at Denny’s. The portion was extremely small and thin, I ordered it rare, it came out half medium and half well-well done. It wasn’t even edible!!!!!!! My mother ordered the crabcakes which despite the small portion ended up being pretty tasty. I DO NOT recommend anyone waste their money on this place, you’d be better off getting a steak at Denny’s or Norms!!! I couldn’t figure out how this place got such good reviews, but now I think I’ve figured it out… the dates, the place got killer reviews a year or so ago, but it is definitely not worthy of the praise now-a-days. This is my first time being so disgusted and disappointed that I’ve actually signed up and written a review, so please take my advice and save yourself from a horrible dining experience.

Pros: Comfortable Booths

Cons: Food, Service, Parking, Price.... did i mention Food?

I used to live around the corner in beverly Hills and went to "Kate's frequently, untill the turkey burger! Shocked, disillusioned, horrified, I could have soled my manolos with it and prayed that anyone i had refered there, never actually went. I considered selling them my own recipe, but decided against it. The decor is refreshing. The tables widely spaced. It looks clean. However one looks over one's shoulder more than once in hope of making an appointment with wait staff. The food is definitely overpriced and by the way, indeed it isn't Mack Donalds. It isn't the Four Seasons (NYNY) or La Gavroche ,London, or Brasserie Lippe in Paris either.

Pros: decor is fresh . Looks clean

Cons: It aint what it used to be. hard, dry burgers. just slipping....like all of us
