Downey >Above & Beyond Pet Clinic
really bad abscess, dirty towel, recommends dr, enjoyed animals, love vet, warm compression, pleasant experience
This place was actually really great!
My baby Yorkie had fractured his paw and was in pain since Monday and i finally got the chance to bring him in and they xrayed it showed me where it was fractured. Also coming with a 3 year old is no ideal but the staff was great and even took my little brother around to see the fish tank and was very friendly! Got my baby yokes paw in a cast and he's been running around and is no long in pain which is great!
I'm not one to write a review and i was just amazed by the customer service i received even after reading some of the horror stories on this. I will definitely be back when ever my baby Yorkie Toby needs to be taken care of.
So far, so good. I have had my desert tortoises treated there for the past few years for upper respiratory problems. The prices are reasonable. The Dr. is very pleasent and the staff is nice enough. The Dr. does talk your ear off about many subjects, including bacteria studies. This seems to make the office visit take a little longer, but I always learn something. Sunday hours are great. We arrived around 10:30, left by 11:15.
My family and I have taken all of our dogs here for years, and we have never had a problem. Yeah, the building isn't the greatest and it's a bit small, but who cares! All of that is materialistic stuff. As long as the place is sanitary and they can take care of my dogs, then that's all that matters. The people here have always showed a love for my dogs, and I have always agreed their decisions. Overall, I find them to be a great facility, and great people. I absolutely love my dogs, and I would recommend Above & Beyond to anyone else who does.
I came across this place byreferral from my vet who wasnt available... So glad I did. The consultation is 1/2 the price from what we normally pay. Its amazing they see our chickens too.
Dr. Gerry Citek has cared for all my 4 doggies, He has the knowledge and experience to give a accurate and understandable diagnosis: I strayed and took one of my dogs to another vet a couple of weeks ago and they wanted to do a bunch of test and really charge a lot- Dr. Citek give real options and try's to keep costs down- Another thing that totally impressed me is that I was supposed to call the next morning for my dogs blood test results BUT instead I got the follow up call from his staff and really felt that they cared and listened to my updates on how she was doing!
I caution you to take your Beloved Pet here!.
I filed a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Board with the State of California Consumer Affairs to report the unsanitary practices by vet and staff and also the filthy condition of the facility. I brought in my 14 yr old cat recovering from a really bad abscess on his head. The vet "Dr. Gerry" did not use gloves when he handled my pet and was rough in treating him. It's disheartening to know that people like him who do not genuninely care about animals are in the field he is in. At one point, he took scissors and without any form of anesthesia to lessen the pain, he began to cut my cat's open swollen abscess in order to enlarge the wound. He kept telling me that the cat did not feel pain when he did this (as my cat hissed and moaned). He quickly retracted his statement when I spoke up and told him that he was hurting my cat! He then said, "oh yeah, that part does hurt the cat". I was also deeply concerned about the way they clean up after their animal patients. I witnessed blood gush out from my cat to spill onto the examination table and floor as he poked at his sore to drain his abscess. In shock, I saw the vet tech clean up the mess with the same dirty towel he used on my cat for warm compression. NO ANTIBACTERIAL OR SANITIZING SPRAY WAS EVER USED. It worries me that another animal was seen directly after and put on that same examination table as bacteria and infections are easily spread, therefore potentially harming other pets who are already there because they are sick.
Take your pet elsewhere....to someone who has more genuine sympathy for what your animal is going through and cleaner facilities.
To other pet owners who want to complain about this veterinary office, I urge you to make an official complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs Veterinary Medical Board. Because if a complaint is not official, this Vet office will not change their ways.
Our pets deserve to have the same treatment we expect to receive when we go to our doctor's office.
wouldn't have another vet care for my animals. Dr Citek is, in my opinion a person who loves his work...He is dedicated, practical, and very knowledgable. I have been going to Dr. Citek for about 20+ years and I have always had a pleasant experience (except of course when I had to euthanize my pets). All my animals have enjoyed healthy lives thanks to Dr. Citek and his staff. I reccommend him to all my friends!
Above and Beyond Test. Over $200.00 later, still no results. I took my female into see the vet. She has been sick for 3 days. She can't control her bladder, started vomitting the 3rd day, and now #2 is watery and green from grass. My family believed it was a bladder infection. I took her in the assistant took a stool sample. Without the results of that another assistant came in and said the dr. recommends a urinary and bloodtest. UNDERSTANDABLE! and an XRAY! and antiboitics. It wil be $491.00. All I could say was no!. Luckily, my boyfriend was there (he is a little more reasonable) He asked don't you think we get the results for the Fical test first.?!?! Long story short we got the antibiotics, and they gave her 2 shots. Then they said I couldn't be there!!!! YEAH RIGHT! Iv'e had this dog from day 1!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I bred her) You not taking my dog to the back without me. The vet agreed I could be there then the assistant came in. It will be another $10.00. Why???FOr the room because you want to be here and we have a wait. (2 people in the waiting room) Mind you I waited in the waiting room for an hour but was only in the room for 20 minutes. I still don't know whats wrong with my dog and I refuse to have them take 10 million tests when he probably has an idea of what is going on. Im hoping the antibiotics help...she did stop vommitting and the #2 thing....if not I will be seeing another vet today.
