great cook yourself restaurant. Pretty cool place, I love the building. It's kind of hard to find if you were just driving around--we were actually going to In n Out Burger and happened to drive through this parking lot and saw the sign and decided to try it out. Definitely would have eaten here sooner if we'd known about it. The portions are small, but in reality they are sufficient so you don't leave feeling like a stuffed animal. Since you grill it yourself, it's up to you how it's cooked, and I love that aspect. The food came out pretty fast (granted, it's uncooked so it should) and the veggies were particularly good. Basically, you sit down, they turn on your grill, paint some oil on it and you're cookin and eating in about 20 mins. The tuna appetizer is darn good too.

expensive & small servings. I have eaten here a couple times and it was ok. the last time i went with another couple, they sat us near the back by the restrooms. There was a huge colony of ants crawling up the wall!! we didn't complain until we where done because we really did not feel like moving. when i told our waitress she said they knew of the problem and decided to start using that table again... WHY!!!! MAKE SURE THE BACK BOOTH BY THE WALL IS FREE OF ANTS BEFORE YOU SIT THERE!

Best Japanese BBQ In Town!. I have to admit - I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to restaurants. That's why I can fully endorse Torrance Gyu-Kaku because they lived up to every single one of my expectations! They had the most helpful and friendly staff I've ever come across. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious!!! The prices were not too bad - especially since they had some great daily and monthly specials. I've been a few times and I can already consider myself a regular. I strongly reccomend this restaurant to all Japanese food lovers in the South Bay!

BY FAR, THE BEST DINING EXPERIENCE IN A LONG TIME!!!. My wife and I had a fantastic experience dining at this restaurant. We were immediately greeted by a chorus of "Irashaimase! Konbanwa!" and tended to by a staff member. Since it was very busy, we had high expectations that this should be a great dining experience due to its popularity.

We were not disappointed at all!!! The service was outstanding and very professional. Prices were very reasonable as well!!! They have unbelievable happy hour specials that include such deals as 50% off of meat items during happy hour! Half price meats at a BBQ restaurant? Absolutely a great deal!!! Our order was taken promptly and accurately by a server who did so in a kneeling position (which I found to be quite impressive.) Management even stopped by our table to check to see how everything was!

I highly recommend this restaurant! Great food, fantastic service, nice ambiance - it has it all! I think it would be great for a wide variety of different customers: large parties (there were 3 birthday parties there during our visit), smaller parties (there were a great number of smaller intimate parties of 2), and families!

NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!. The whole concept of bbq-ing your own meats and veggies is not a japanese import. Most of their menu items were korean food, and mediocre, if that. A tiny teacup plate of raw meat costs about $7.

Their tofu salad is really good, probably the only delicious thing on the menu. The servers, on the other hand, are wonderful. They're very attentative, expect to pay loads in tips when you dine there.

Do-it-yourself Japanese barbecue gets a hip makeover at this jaunty Japanese import.. The Scene
Traditional (tatami booths) meets modern (exposed overhead piping) in this narrow dining room that buzzes with excitement, perhaps from the anticipation of playing with an open grill. Gregarious servers hustle to a looping soundtrack of hip-hop and electronica. The crowd runs the gamut from hipsters sporting vintage Levi's to families enjoying quality time.

The Food
With outposts on nearly every corner in Japan, Gyu-Kaku is the Starbucks of Japanese barbecue. And like the java joint, this Asian chain boasts the same efficiency and high quality. The fun begins when you get your tongs. Transfer the fresh, uncooked bites of meat to your very own charcoal-powered grill and flip to your heart's desire. Tender kalbi (short ribs), briny shrimp and half a dozen other meats are doused in ta're, the usual soy sauce-based sweet marinade; shio, a salty sesame secret sauce; or miso.
