The Scene – Traditional (tatami booths) meets modern (exposed overhead piping) in this narrow dining room that buzzes with excitement, perhaps from the anticipation of playing with an open grill. Gregarious servers hustle to a looping soundtrack of hip-hop and electronica. The crowd runs the gamut from hipsters sporting vintage Levi's to families enjoying quality time. – – The Food – With outposts on nearly every corner in Japan, Gyu-Kaku is the Starbucks of Japanese barbecue. And like the java joint, this Asian chain boasts the same efficiency and high quality. The…

Pretty cool place, I love the building. It's kind of hard to find if you were just driving around--we were actually going to In n Out Burger and happened to drive through this parking lot and saw the sign and decided to try it out. Definitely would have eaten here sooner if we'd known about it. The portions are small, but in reality they are sufficient so you don't leave feeling like a stuffed animal. Since you grill it yourself, it's up to you how it's cooked, and I love that aspect. The food came out pretty fast (granted, it's uncooked so it should) and the veggies were particularly good. Basically, you sit down, they turn on your grill, paint some oil on it and you're cookin and eating in about 20 mins. The tuna appetizer is darn good too.
- Pros: fast service
- Cons: very small table surfaces
expensive & small servings

I have eaten here a couple times and it was ok. the last time i went with another couple, they sat us near the back by the restrooms. There was a huge colony of ants crawling up the wall!! we didn't complain until we where done because we really did not feel like moving. when i told our waitress she said they knew of the problem and decided to start using that table again... WHY!!!! MAKE SURE THE BACK BOOTH BY THE WALL IS FREE OF ANTS BEFORE YOU SIT THERE!

I have to admit - I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to restaurants. That's why I can fully endorse Torrance Gyu-Kaku because they lived up to every single one of my expectations! They had the most helpful and friendly staff I've ever come across. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious!!! The prices were not too bad - especially since they had some great daily and monthly specials. I've been a few times and I can already consider myself a regular. I strongly reccomend this restaurant to all Japanese food lovers in the South Bay!
- Pros: ambiance, parking, service, taste, value
- Cons: none!
