great hot dogs, good grub, good chili, not fresh leaves, super fast service, loved place, big capital a
The Hot Dogs can't be beat!!!!. The menu includes a pretty good variety, burgers, fries, pastrami, chili tamale(w/crackers of course) and the RC cola. But the specialty is the DOG. The reg dog has only mustard, catsup, and onions. But the bread and dogs are steamed. And they snap when you bite into them. And when you add the very delicious chili they really grab you. I have eaten at Chronis since my dad use to take us to the one that used to be on the NE corner Whittier & Eastern just across from Calvary cemetery back in 1957 on Friday nights as our family treat. And I keep stopping in at the only one left on Whittier just east of Gerhart. I always remember tall Ron who was the main guy for so many years and could add everything in your box in a couple of seconds.
chronis is great. i have gone to chronis since the early 1950's and they are the best, real fast and never changes, i loved the tamales and hot chocolate...i was lucky we lived only a block away and i had to pass chronis ever day when i went to whitter blvd.....im almost 70 now so i think i can review with lots of experience......
BEST CHILI DOG EVAR!!!1!!!!1.
I've actually been eating at Chronis since I was a kid. It was a staple of my youth and really just the standard for good chili dogs in my book. Imagine my expression when I realized that Chronis was actually among the top chili dogs available in the greater Los Angeles area. I've tried Carneys, been to Pinks (tons of imagination, gotta give props for that alone), and I still prefer my old school favorite.
The location screams of days gone by having you order from an outdoor lunch counter and then eating in a fenced in awning filled with old plastic bench seating. Everything is where it should be. Portions haven't changed since I was 5 (20 plus years ago). They still serve RC cola (anyone in the know will realize that it's heads and tails above Coke or Pepsi). Hot yellow peppers sit in a plastic container next to the paper envelopes for them (eat at your own discretion). -And the chili dogs don't have all of that extra muck on them, nuthin' but the basics (onions and mustard).
It's a big capital A+ from this proud Los Angelino!
Hot Dogs- simple the way they should be!. Don't expect anything fancy from this little place on Whittier Boulevard in the heart of East L.A. I've been to Pink's in Hollywood, and this place is the complete opposite. You won't find Kosher Dogs or any other kind of avant-garde hot dog on the menu. According to my father, the menu hasn't changed since he was a kid, and that is the charm of this place- well, besides the great hot dogs. The menu also includes burgers, chili cheese fries, and RC cola. However, the signature food is the hot dogs, which have the mandatory 'snap' when you bite them- this is what characterizes a good hot dog from a bad one. Due to its location on the Eastside, this place doesn't get the hype that Pink's or other fast food places on the Westside do. Still, it's hard not to appreciate the quality and the simplicity of this 'hole-in-the-wall' that is an Eastside landmark. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go get three hot dogs right now with extra ketchup.
East Los rivals the East Coast. Like so many others I grew up eating Chronis and the hot dogs are the best. I've been to NY and most of the East Coast and let me tell you Chronis can easily rival them. In fact I took I took some friends from NY there and they loved the place. It is also a landmark for those of the East Los Angeles community. I love taking people there because everyone ends up falling in love with it. It's one of the prides of the Eastside!!! Its been around so long that my father used to eat there when he was a kid and he's 65 years old.
best food. best hot dog around chile too good been eating there for 40 years my father took me i took my kids . and now i drive 25 miles to take my grand kids that has to tell you something try it you will make the drive too
East Los Best. There isn't a better chili dog on the eastside. The bun is steamed, the chili is a secret recipe, and the hot dog tastey. The hamburger has fresh leaves of lettuce, tomatoes, onion and pickle, you couldn't make it better at your own backyard bbq grill. It's an old fashion hamburger stand, you walk up to the curbside counter to place your order and sit and eat under a covered patio. I suggest you wash this good grub down with the Grape Drink. Enjoy.
Pastrami 101.
This place has definitely been my #A-1 fast food establishment for the past 30+ years!
Not only do they have the best Pastrami sandwiches, check out their hamburgers, hot dogs, chili fries. The prices are right & the service is super fast. They should at least have 5 in every county. You won't be sorry or leave hungry.
