  1. Our kids love their meats and their baked beans, too.
  2. If you ever want BBQ ribs, dont go to Phillips as you will end up waiting for over an hour and the food really nasty.
  3. For my birthday party a couple months later I ordered up two full trays of meat w/ sides and cornbread.
  4. The sandwiches are great too.
  5. The trays are great for groups, you get chicken, brisket, tri-tip, links and two kinds of ribs along with a loaf of bread and a couple of sides.
  6. would recommend the pork ribs with mild sauce.
  7. What makes their BBQ so great is the smokiness and the sauce.
  8. In addition to Phillps BBQ, they also have the best pototo salad I've ever had.
  9. Great rub on the meats, smoky flavor, and well blended sauce.
  10. The meat was dry and not tender as it's supposed to.
  11. The 1st two visits to Philips barbeque the food was really good.

  1. This is a little more freeway friendly than the original Phillip's, which is still in Leimert Park (further down Crenshaw).

BBQ Ribs

by Fanatic at Citysearch

If you ever want BBQ ribs, dont go to Phillips as you will end up waiting for over an hour and the food really nasty. The meat was dry and not tender as it's supposed to. The people work there they look so tired for standing up too long and they would give you a red eye if you ask them to give you the correct sauce. It's a shitt place. Lots of people got angry when leaving the place and I was one of them. I'd give a zero star. Never return!

Best BBQ in Southern California

by mikem128 at Citysearch

Simply the best BBQ in Southern California. I have read many of the reviews and I have read how changes have been made to this location from the Leo's days. For the most part they are still the same. The hot sauce is that chili base hot bbq sauce. I have been going to this location since the early 80's and the BBQ is as great as ever. Stand outside when the smoker is going and you will smell like smoke yourself. The smoke flavor is very evident in the pork ribs and sliced beef. I live in Orange County and when I am driving down the 10 near Crenshaw, I can't help but stop. Today the line was out the door, no parking, too long a wait. I will say this, it was worth every bit of hassle. Simply fantastic BBQ and with the line this place had today, I think some others think exactly the same.

  • Pros: Fantastic food, every item is very good. Forget the cons, the food is that good overall.
  • Cons: Almost no place to eat there, poor parking, sometimes a bit slow.

The smoke cloud of the great aroma of good BBQ is enticing...

by junglecee at Citysearch

If you just so happen to be driving down Crenshaw on your way somewhere and see a cloud of smoke drifting from a wood shack with an hickory/bbq aroma then you are coming close to Phillips. Love this place. Fast Service. Good Food.

  • Pros: Good food, fast service
  • Cons: Crowded, small parking lot

Amazing BBQ

by butrbiscut at Citysearch

I was intruduced to this place by a friend in Vegas. I was preparing a road trip and got a call begging for me to bring food from Phillips BBQ. I bought a few sandwishes and a half tray of meat w/ sides and the staff packed everything for the five hour ride in my car. I stuck the tray in the oven on warm for a couple hours after I arrived in Vegas and when it was time for dinner I had some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten in my life.

For my birthday party a couple months later I ordered up two full trays of meat w/ sides and cornbread. My friends were stunned. People were asking the next two days if there were any leftovers and a week later friends are still sending me e-mails asking where to find the food. One friend from South Carolina said "it tastes like home". Enough said.

The trays are great for groups, you get chicken, brisket, tri-tip, links and two kinds of ribs along with a loaf of bread and a couple of sides. The sandwiches are great too. So far I've only tried the mixed sauce (mild & spicy together) but to try them seperately I'll have to go back there a few more time. Let's just say that this won't be a problem. Absolutely amazing.
