What Our Expert Scouts Say

Sor Tino Restaurant

Sor Tino is a lesser known but equally delicious sister restaurant to celebrity filled Ago on Melrose. The best is their outdoor seating, which is covered and heated during the colder months.

Food Average, SERVICE THE WORST. As I arrive to the restaurant it was nearly empty except one couple that was sitting outside. I have a smile on my face, and I'm ready to enjoy a good italian meal...my mistake that I choice Sor Tino. The overdressed host was rude, and very short with me, and I had arrived with a huge smile on my face. So I was a bit confused. I tend to be overly gracious when I go to restaurants because I understand the service industry can be tough. So I say please and thank you, constantly. So you can see why I was a bit confused on the waiters constant rudeness every time he came to my table. I immediately tell the server, that I love to eat, and I will be ordering a starter and an entree. They bring out the Seafood soup which was really bland for an Italian restaurant, even though the fish seemed to be semi fresh. As I finish my soup, the server asked me if he can get me anything else. I said yes, my entree. He walks away in a huff, as I over hear him at the next table, he also brought out the wrong entrees for them as well. Mind you there are less than 10 people at the restaurant. The server had a horrible attitude, and I will never go back there. I don't recommend this place, unless you want to wait around for 20 minutes for someone to even approach your table.

Decent food, TERRIBLE SERVICE. The food was slightly overpriced for what is was, authentic but uninspired standard Italian fare. Everyone dining in my general area, including myself, had to speak with the manager at least once during the time I was there because the service was so poor. An apetizer I ordered never came, then after our entrees arrived I had to argue with the waiter about removing it from my bill. There are 4 other better Italian restaurants in Brentwood that you can visit instead.

La dolce vita in Brentwood. Sor Tino is one of the best italian restaurants in LA. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The more surprised I am to see negative reviews critizizing the food, the service and the even the wine. Regarding the wine I can say for sure that there was no reason for complaint: Crystals at the bottom of a bottle of wine are tartrate crystals formed as part of the aging process and are usually a sign that the wine is of good quality. As to the food I can only repeat that it is as it should be: full of flavour and prepared with good quality ingredients, thus the higher price. Yes, quality has its price.

Jewel of Brentwood. You can not go wrong with this great find in Brentwood. This jewel gives Giorgio Baldi's and Via Veneto a run for their money!

Real Italian Food!. The Food is good! The service is welcoming and Italian. I have been there several times, and will probably go there again. The food is good, a little bit over priced though! Wine list is OK too, but no matter what you pick, the waiter suggests a more expensive one!!

Nothing to write home about. Overall, an average meal. It tasted good, but was on the pricey side. The house wine tasted like it came out of a can, but hey -- I went for the cheap stuff. Not sorry I tried it, but have no desire to go back. They served us our food way too fast. Couldn't even enjoy conversation before it cam.e

Overpriced attitude, at least portions are small. Not sure if the waiter was Italian or just an actor. Probably actor because his attitude was French. Not only did he bump people in the head while setting down dishes/filling glasses, but he copped attitude whenever we asked questions. Given how hard he was to understand, maybe that accent was authentic afterall...

Portions were miniscule, relatively expensive. You'd expect amazing flavors to make up the difference, but everything was either bland or waaaay too fishy.

They tried to take advantage of our group by burying us in appetizers without making it clear what they were doing, but at least they stopped bringing food when we realized what was happening.

The heaters were set on "inferno."

If the food were amazing, I could forgive attitude. If the portions were large, I could forgive the price. But there are way too many options in LA to waste your time here.

Total Rip Off!. I chose Sor Tino for a large group of people because they could accommodate us on the patio-- big mistake. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, and instead of them bringing us one of each, they started bringing out 3 and 4 plates of the same item!! I got a scallop fettucini special that was way too fishy, and a few people in our party who drank wine found sugar crystals forming inside their glass! When this was brought to the server's attention, he said that was 'normal' for a good bottle of wine. The food was totally overpriced and I felt like they were trying to milk us for every penny. It's a shame because they do have a nice patio, but I will never go back.

OK restaurant- depends on what you order. I came here with my family and everyone was very mixed on their opinions of the food they ordered. I ordered the cioppino and I thought it was quite good but the other two people really disliked their dishes. One was the raviolis- they only got literally 5 raviolis and the second was the pizza- I had a slice and it was really bland and awful. Mixed opinion overall- the waiter was a bit snotty.
