What People Are Saying About Cut

The Scene – Awash in his trademark white color scheme, architect Richard Meier (Getty Center) eschews both the dim lighting and dark-leather booths of traditional steakhouses, and the whimsical designs of L.A.'s more recent insurgence. There's nary an antler chandelier in sight. Industry honchos, their arm candy, and overwhelmed hotel guests lounge in middle-of-the-room booths or stylish swivel chairs. Stellar service is synchronized, polite and polished. – – The Food – Wolfgang Puck proffers the kind of decadent protein-heavy appetizers, red meat mains and stiff…
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- Even with the validation, valet parking is $10. It's worth it to peruse the neighborhood for street spots.
- What to Drink:
- Martinis are well-made and the classic version features an olive trio: One plain, one stuffed with blue cheese, and a third filled with jalapenos. The wine list is a gem, and includes in-depth tableside service regardless of bottle price.
- Look Good:
- The walk to the bathroom is long, but does provide an excuse to traverse more "Pretty Woman" hotel territory.

Not what we expected - on any level!
by flytba
For $160 a steak, with everything a la carte, you would expect the steak to be outstanding - but it wasn't!
I wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner for her birthday. After reading the reviews, I decided on The Cut and made reservations. We were on time and they seated us right away. When we got to our table my wife commented that it looked like an ultra modern 1950's diner. It was very loud and crowded with many tables very close together and not much room. Very unromantic. Our chairs kept getting bumped by people being seated or getting up and we had to duck the waiters serving food, as well as holding our water glasses from tipping over. You could hear everything everyone was saying all around you and some of the things were very private and should not have been said in public, so we did not talk very much. My wife ordered the $160 steak and I ordered the $60 steak. We tried each others and there really was not much difference. They were very good - just not outstanding. We have had better steaks for a lot less money. The sides, desserts, and coffee were very good as well. The service was average with us having to ask several times for more water and coffee. I was surprised to see on the bill an extra charge for bread when we asked for more. Our bill came to $350, but the reason it was so inexpensive was because we did not have drinks, other than coffee and water, and did not have a salad or appetizer. The couple next to us did and they were very shocked when their bill came to over $500.
All in all, it was a pretty expensive meal, really not worth that much money, and the decor, seating, and noisiness of the restaurant, make it a forgettable and disappointing experience. We will not come here again.
OVERRATED
by MaksMom
We decided to go here for my husband's 40th, and I will highlight the evening. Arrived and was seated during some sort of alarm/flashing light was going off. I had a slight headache from the strobe lights. Did not get the meat preview/overview, meat was not done properly and had to send back and ate it 10 minutes after everyone else had eaten their food. Double-charged for drinks and when we brought all this to the manager's attention, not really apologetic. For this kind of $, I expect a lot more. Especially because Spago is completely opposite. Will not go back.
DISAPPOINTING overrated and terribly slow service
by debbiew2005
I was excited to go here after reading a lot of the great reviews.
The food here isn't bad- BUT they are charging outstanding food prices, and the food is a far, far cry from that.
The menu is so expensive- much moreso than the much better Maestros.
Also, we waited over 1 hour for our food.
My friend's steak was supposed to be med well and they did it med rare- when he asked for it to be redone, it came back virtually inedible.
The overpriced dessert was only so-so.
When we asked for more bread, they told us there would be a $6 charge!
- Pros: brussel sprout dish was good
- Cons: vastly overpriced, cannot do anything other than med rare,
Highly entertaining scene at Sidebar
by ATLAX
Echoing comments from others, Sidebar is a great spot albeit only once in a while because it is overwhelming to the senses.
On my most recent foray to Sidebar, the staff members were great (i.e. very pleasant, attentive, no attitude), the drinks strong and the appetizers delicious.
As to the people watching - CLASSIC!!! Including several hookers, one porn star, Russian and New Jersey mafia, a transvestite, too many gold-diggers, several Cougars, plenty of the clueless, the bewildered and the surgically-enhanced.
- Pros: Great service/drink/food, crazy fun people watching
- Cons: Sensory overload
Overpriced Confusing Presentation
by Stanley225
If you want to be swept up into the world of over-glamorizing steak, then this place is for you. The room is cold and noisy. The view is of the entry and exit ramp for cars coming and going from the hotel. It's a scene, not relaxing nor is the food worth the price. Try Dan Tana's or the Grill. They always have had good steak and you know what you will get. Also try the chains like Arnie Mortons and Ruth's Chris, the original shrines to a piece of meat.
- Pros: Great Variety But Confusing
- Cons: Price, Room, and Service
