What Our Expert Scouts Say

April 30, 2013

Steakhouses don't get any more luxe than this Beverly Hills affair, created by Wolfgang Puck to cater to the cream of LA high society when in a meaty mood. The steak is wonderful though, if you aren't paying.

Decor is simple and modern. As an enthusiast of mid-century modern design, details such as the Eames chairs were much appreciated. Service was incredible. All staff was attentive and friendly. David Blackmore Ranch Australian Wagyu Filet Mignon is to die for.

Wolfgang Puck's swanky Beverly Hills steakhouse is as much about the see-and-be-seen scene as it is about expertly aged beef.

Amazing food, great service. I've been to Cut several times, for business and pleasure. Always a great experience and the food has never disappointed. The sommelier Dana is very helpful and has turned me on to some of the best wines around. Somewhat hard to get into but well worth the wait. And if you just want a quick bite and drinks the Side Bar has a great mini menu from Cut. Try the sliders and Ahi Poke apps, great with their amazing beverage selection!

Couldn't take the stench. If you like your steakhouse to smell like B.O. and moldy dish water then go to CUT. I just coudn't get past the malodorous fumes upon entering. Nevertheless i was seated in a bright almost institutional like room at a very shaky table. That's right, it was a rocker. Well so far, my date and I are waiting 10 minutes before a server comes to our rocker table. All the while the body odor and moldy dish water smell is permeating the room. There is nothing more appetizing then this foul , sweaty pit odor in the air. I thought this smell could only be found in a scummy middle eastern diner in the bad part of town. No, instead it is at CUT. I asked to be moved to another table which the server obliged but nonetheless the F*ckin reakness was still in the air.

We looked at the bloated menu prices and thougtht, how much can they charge with smell of a dirty showerroom at a gym. Puck must have lost his F*ckin mind. Com'on... Eating right now is the last thing I'm thinking. We ended up ordering and I ordered an 8 oz. steak with 2 oz of fat on it. We ended up taking everything to go because there was just no chance in hell to eat in this overlit stank house. Other then that it might be worth checking out but i reccomend outdoor seating.

Best Steak in the world...literally. Until my visit to Cut I primarly liked steak in NYC. However, I recently had the most amazing steak in my life. I had the american wagyu filet mingon and it was to die for. My appetizer, a poached egg with bacon dressing over asparagus was also phenomenal. We shared the side of corn which was good, but I wouldn't order again, and for dessert we had the peach and raspberry cobbler and the banana cream pie. I liked the cobbler and my friend like the banana cream pie. But we both agreed upon the outstanding quality of the steak. There are great wines by the glass, and the service was very good but they do book in full every night. Even on week nights the place is packed. It's currently probably the hardest table to book in LA and now I know why. Wolfgang Puck came around to the tables and introduced himself, which was a pleasent surprise. You always know you enjoyed a dinner when you call the next day to get another reservation!

Table next to an elevator. last night we had gone to Cut Restaurant to celebrate my 40th Birthday. We were 30 minutes late so they had said they had released our table. I made the reservation because I saw the picture of the place in LA Times Restaurant edition and thought what a nice way to dine with a beautifully designed space and good food. Well we were seated next to the elevator totally shut off from the rest of the space. You might as well be seated outside. Was that table there by accident? I was embarrased to have my friends drove all the way from Orange County just to either stare at an elevator, part view of the kitchen

or the entry. We had to agree also that we have to be out of there by 8:15 PM which was understandable. But I do not know if there is a connection between eating under time pressure and the poor service we experienced. The head waiter was a bit alright but we were not told that the sides were going to be served family style so we ended up with 5 potato sides, 2 of them of the same kind, thand God for the corn and spinach. The kobe beef of course was excellent but did make it enough for the whole experience to be a memorable one. We were given bread once and never were we offered again. We were given one butter for a table of 7. The water was not refilled at some of the glasses. The waiters, when they were serving our entree was enjoying a private conversation among themselves. So before we left I took a glimpse of the "restaurant" and hoped we had eaten there. Anyway here were the nice plate we had: warm veal tongue, soft shell crab, bone marrow creme brulle and some crab apptizer. The steak was delicious as well and so was the bottle of wine we ordered. But overall, that was very disappointing not to feel like you are inside the Cut. Would the service have been better if the table was a good one?

AWFUL SERVICE AND DRY MEAT. CUT is supposed to b the place to find the"gr8st steak in town"--- well it isn't. I ordered a ny and they gave me like a dry, un marinated piece of cardboard, basically. ive had much better steak at lawrys. and for the price i payed at cut that was like my rent out the window. and for the "hollywood starlets" i shouldve seen-- there wasnt any1 there but old 50 year old men and some bimbos trying to hook up with them. and to top it off, the service was AWFUL! i got my appetizer before i got my drink, which they messed up. All in all, the experience was terrible and i will NOT EVER be going there again

Great booze, food, and people watching.. We arrived without reservations and were politely shooed off to the SideBar. We were able to find a seat on one of the plush sofas; Our drink order was taken immediatley and we were served some complimentary yet delicious wasabi peas, olives, almonds. The drinks were HUGE! The biggest GreyHound this side of the bus.

The "people watching" was superb. In the corner there was a lecherous old man with three cougaresque blonds with large bossoms. But the entertainment did not end there... a New Yorker came over and had a seat next to us becuase he had to "escape his friends"... evidently a tranie had approached him and his friends and he was no longer interested in making small talk. As such he retreated with his tail between his legs to the other end of the bar. Yes there were lots of hot chicks and there was this one who was curiously standing alone all evening, just waiting???

Now on to the food that we enjoyed barside. What good night doesn't include Sliders? These tasty little hamburgesas were amazing. As my boyfriend so elegantly declared "much better than White Castle." No seriously though... they were flipping good! I could eat a dozen (and I'm no hefter). Even the fries and aolie was ridiculously good. The Steak Tartar was amazing... it meleted in your mouth.

The deserts are huge and delicious. We had the Banana Brulee and Chocolate Souflee... in fact they were so delicious looking that they even caught the attention of a wandering female.

Seriously, a good evening. The Beverly Wilshire is beautiful and glamourous. The walk to the bathroom was actually kinda cool and gave you the chance to explore the front portion of the hotel. It would probably not be a good thing if you were on crutches, or sick to your stomach after an encounter with a tranie....

Bon Appetite.

Fabulous. Went with my girlfriend this week...we loved it. I can totally refute every previous negative comment I've read on this list. The host stand/restaurant concierge was extremely friendly and able to secure a table for two on short-notice. The cocktails, well-priced wine (Pinot Noir for under $75) and the NY Strip were all terrific. We esp. loved the presentation of the sides...unlike at our Chicago steakhouses where they just drop the dishes on the table, they served them to us and then left the rest on the table. We had just a terrific time.

overrated with attitude. This restaurant was a big disappointment. While it is difficult to get a reservation you end up surrounded by tourists. The food is just okay and weak compared to Mastro's. Prices are high which I expected, but the experience is not pleasant so you really don't feel you are getting your monies worth. The staff are haughty and unfriendly. The room, while sort of designerly it sterile and cold feeling. I would not return.
