What Our Expert Scouts Say

Ninjin

Ninjin in Santa Monica makes a great, inexpensive chirashi bowl and uniquely fresh rolls. Their happy "hour" lasts practically all day. Lunch specials average $10 and it's a great option if you're looking for something cheap and quick.

Citysearch Editorial Review. Hidden near extremely popular Italian mainstay Fritto Misto, this cute and modest restaurant is where locals go for reasonably priced sushi and Japanese fare. The room, with its hanging pendant lamps, sushi bar manned by bandana-wearing chefs and lacquered tables feels like your typical middle-of-the-road sushi joint, but don't let that fool you--the raw fish here is impressively fresh. Salmon sashimi, albacore nigiri, and an almost endless selection of rolls--categorized into sections like Baked, Tempura, Low Carb and Fresh--are just some of what you'll find on the menu. Lunch and dinner combos start at $9.95 while the dinner-only boats (enough for 2-3 people) max out at $45.

Surprisingly good - now the best inexpensive sushi in the area. Ninjin opened right around when I moved to LA (4 years ago), and back then they had decent, but not exactly mind-blowing sushi. The decor was simple, white, and a little drab.

However, It seems that recently they have renovated their restaurant, and perhaps hired a new chef, because now the sushi is VERY good, especially considering the price, and the restaurant is now somewhere that I would actually like to sit down and eat a pleasant meal.

We ordered the Sushi B dinner special, and it was an incredible bargain at $16 - the quality of the fish and rice was that of a much more expensive sushi restaurant. There was a nice variety of fish, too - octopus, salmon, shrimp, albacore, whitefish, and several others. We also ordered one of the special rolls that had crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, and tuna - this was about $10 and totally worth it. They also gave us free edamame when we sat down, which is always welcome. We were stuffed, and the tab came out to about $35 for two people.

I am so glad to have re-discovered this place, since it is within walking distance of my apartment... I'd say if they keep the quality up, this is the best inexpensive sushi in the area by far.

Phenomenal Sushi!. I've ben four times now to Ninjin, and it just keeps getting better. You know the place is good when the conversation during your meal mainly consists of how awesome the food is! It's so tasty in fact, I take pictures of everything that comes to our table! Try the rolls you arent sure of.. they are the best! There is one with sliced onions on top that is to die for. And you get free edamame when you sit down! Best of all, its very very decently priced for the amount of food you get. STELLAR quality sushi. Normally about $30 with tip for two people. (2 rolls fills up 2 people!) Salivating for more right now...
