Terrible Hostess. Told 45 min for a table, after an hour we checked our name & was told it would be 60 more min to be seated. The TERRIBLE hostess RUDELY said she never told us 45 min in the first place!!? What an idiot. Her job is to be friendly and accomodating, not to be a LIAR. Looks like she has upset more than just us based on the other reviews, wish I read the CityGuide reviews first. The hostess was so BAD it inspired me to sign up & write my first restaurant review. I am happy to know enough to not spend my money at a place that would employ such a RUDE woman - she literally did a 'talk to the hand' gesture when we displayed our upsetness vs. any type of apology, compassion or understanding. Whatever Boa, I can only hope this restaurant fails miserably.

BOA is BAD. For a steakhouse to have American Kobe Beef on the menu , tell the waitstaff to tell the customers that it can be cut with a fork ( it can't) and then charge $68.00 for a piece of meat that came talking back to me ( cold and raw in the center) when I ordered it medium is inexcusable. The waitstaff did nothing to rectify the situation, nor did the management.

I would never send anyone to this restaurant unless they wanted to get ripped off intentionally.

Not as good as it once was. After dining at the former "Balboa" on Sunset, I tried the new place out. They missed the mark. The steak was good, prepared just a little more than I liked (which the server never asked about), but it was chewy and not really tender. The rest of the meal was just average. At a good steak restaurant, at least you can get good steak. That seems to be all there is. The wine list was impressive. Service was mediocre. I havent been to the original in a while, but I hope they've kept it up.

Thrilled. My boyfriend and I just visited this place for dinner and it was incredible! I dine out frequently and I was so impressed! The food was spectacular. Both my steak and my boyfriend's were so tender you hardly needed a knife. I liked that you get to choose what rubs or sauces you want on your steak or chicken. Both of ours were flavorful but not too overpowering. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was phenomenal! The hostess was very friendly and accomodating. They apologized for seating us on the patio, but because the restaurant is so crowded, it probably was the best option anyway. The bar area was packed with "those who want to be seen" because this is a trendy place. But if you can look past all the "flash" this is truly a great place to go for a special occasion or just great night out.

Great steak, great atmosphere. Having just relocated to west LA from NYC, we were on a mission to find a great, local steakhouse to satisfy our cravings. Boa easily met - if not surpassed - our expectations (we've now been there 5 times in the short month that we've lived here). The filet is delicious, as are the garlic green beans and mashed potatoes. And where else can you find cotton candy on the dessert menu? The waitstaff is knowledgable and friendly, and the manager went above and beyond to make us feel welcome in our new surroundings. Highly recommend!

Don't waste your time.. I would only go to Boa in Santa Monica if you like being treated with arrogance, rudeness, and total disregard. Upon arriving just a few minutes late, our table had already been given away. We weren't even informed of this until after we had waited for 20 minutes to be seated. After we declined a table out on the sidewalk, we were told we would have to wait another half hour and that if we didn't like it, we "could leave." This place is too trendy for its own good. There are too many excellent restaurants in Los Angeles with first class service for people to put up with such demeaning treatment.

Au contraire!. I couldn't disagree more strongly to the other posted review. I had dinner there last week with friends, and everyone loved their food. The Kobe was excellent, the bone-in filte superb, and the wine list was fairly reasonably priced. The chef came over twice to see how our dinner was, and our waiter was very attentive. It's not cheap, but it's a beautiful space and rivals Mastro's as the bet steakhouse in town.

Save your money. I had lunch here with my friends this week and was sorely disappointed. Not only was the service very, very bad, but the food was nothing to get excited about. My "steak" was about a 1/3 - 1/2 inch think piece of meat that was not very tender. The onion soup was mostly bread and very little onions. The manager came by to ask how things were but did not stay around long enough for an answer. He was merely making an appearance. The food was extremely overpriced, the bread was overcooked. The fries were good, but that does not make a meal.

Underwhelmed by this over-priced spot. Everything about my experience at Boa in Santa Monica was "so-so" except for my company. At these prices, I would have expected a great meal with outstanding service. However, the food was mediocre and the service (especially the hostess) left something to be desired. While the restaurant is romantic, most of the seats are so close together that it's impossible to have a private conversation. I know this restaurant just opened in December so I would recommend waiting a few months to see if they can improve their service.
