What Our Expert Scouts Say

Hikari Sake House

Great happy hour with fun sushi specials. Don't forget to try the Volcano...it's so hot right now (mostly because it's on fire). There's also a Culver City location on Culver and Washington Blvd.

Awesome happy hour specials and one of the best quality sushi spots in Santa Monica that won't rape your wallet. Located lots of LA's best start up companies too so you can mingle with a entrepreneurial and techie crowd.

Sushi, sake and so much more come at can't-resist prices during happy hour and lunch, making this a popular hangout for Promenade working stiffs.

Tips for Hikari Sake House

This places is awful. The food is mediocre and the service stinks. Had lunch when I used to work in Santa Monica and the waitress spilled an entire bowl of miso soup on my prada cashmere sweater and bruno magli loafers. The owner gave me attitude so i ended up filing a lawsuit. At the end, justice was served.

Happy Hour Is Re-Donk!. I come to Sake House 4 days out of the week. I'm not exaggerating with you, I don't have the time. I am always working on my bikes, my truck or at Sake House. Gi-normous beers for $3 from 4p-7p and back again around 10pm, or something. The food on the Happy Hour menu is pretty killer too.

It's cheap, bro, but its in a really nice area so you don't feel like you're being a cheap bro. No idea what the place is like when it's not 4p-7p, probably still chill.

Great lunch value. A good lunch option off Promenade. I eat a lot and the portions of the lunch specials are enough for me.

It's not called "Shige" anymore, it's now a Sushi Mon. The address 401 Santa Monica Blvd. is now a Sushi Mon and they don't have shabu shabu anymore. The service is horible, we waited 20 minutes at our table before a server came over. Our server brought the wrong salad and had to have that remade. The sushi was great though.

Great sushi spot near the Promenade!!. Big portions if you get the tempura rolls/rolls on the first page...You'll get soo full. My favorite: Salmon killer and Crazy Tuna if you like Tempura rolls or Baked Salmon traditional. They offer free Miso Soup predinner and oranges after dinner. The waiters are a little "confused" but it's minor...The food is good, sit at one of the booths.

You absolutely have to try it. I love food just about more than anything, and I can say with absolute honesty that this is my favorite restaurant in the entire world. I love the boothes, I love the sushi bar, I love the chef and the waiters. It's beautiful and comfortable, the staff is friendly and amazing, and the food is simply perfect. I haven't found the bad thing on the menu yet, but for sure try the Crispy Spicy Tuna, the shrimp tempura, and the whitefish with miso. Tuesdays are the best day to go for sushi, as all the fresh fish has just come in -- have red snapper sushi, kampachi and toro sashimi. I think it is the best sushi in L.A. They also make a really nice peach martini.

Editorial Review. Matsuhisa veteran brings inventive sushi, shabu shabu and Japanese seafood to Santa Monica.

Location and Service Rule. The location of this restaurant can't be beat. And the food is really good as well. Try the beef Shabu Shabu if you are not a shushi fan. And the Mochi ice cream dessert is a great way to end the meal. I can not say enough about the service at this restaurnt. The staff is great and we are almost always seated immediately.

Diamond in the Rough!. Shige is a great way to spend a Lunch outing or Dinner date! The knowledgeable staff and top notch product will make a repeat customer out of us all! Shige is a true Japenese Food experience. It rises above your normal sushi spot by offering delicious Shabu Shabu & Nabe. Chef Shige works in an open kitchen so all aspiring "foodies" can get free culinary lessons while you happily stuff yourself at the sushi bar. The only down side to Shige is that it is not within walking distance from my apartment. Thank You Very Much Shige!

Great Sushi. My overall dining experience at Shige was excellent. The staff was attentive and courteous, the restaurant was clean and had a New York-hip sleekness to it, and the sushi was amazing. Great place for a date or group dinner. They also serve shabu shabu which is a good option for those who want something other than sushi.
