Editorial Review for Taste on Melrose – by Randi Schmelzer
In Short
Unlike some of the nearby high-end restaurants (and shops, for that matter), this indoor/outdoor place is unpretentious and friendly. Sitting two-by-two along the covered deck or at marble-topped tables in the snug double-sided dining room, perfectly mussed WeHo foodies share herb- and veggie-heavy California fare. The menu, split equally between appetizers and entrees, includes stuffed smoked salmon spring rolls, salads and pizzas. The unsusual but simple starter of grilled romaine lettuce topped with warm gorgonzola, bacon and Granny Smith apples is a must try. Main course highlights are wine-braised chuck roast, wild mushroom filet on lemon risotto and curried chicken with orzo, peas and pecans. Decor in soft browns and deep red adds to the earthy vibe.

So, I do not ordinarily write or respond to food critiques. However, after reading the last review of Taste I feel compelled to say something! I LOVE Taste. The menu has influences from across the globe. I bring my family, friends, and business colleagues there to satisfy their every craving. Whether it be Indian, Chinese, Italian, French, Californian, Creole, Comfort... you cant go wrong its there! The ambiance inside of Taste is very intimate and welcoming. NEVER have I seen any creepy crawlers and or any disgruntled employees. The service is great. The staff seems to remember faces very well. It took my wife and I only two times for us to be greeted like family. Taste is a "regulars place." I see a lot of the same faces. I even see other patrons talking to people seated at tables next them about their food! Taste is the kind of place that you know everyone there appreciates you. As I am sure you know, that is very hard to come by in this city! For those of you wanting a great dinner with very friendly and personal service without having to sell your Land Rover... go there, you wont be sorry! And oh yeah try the pork chop or chicken masala!
Pros: service, food, patio, monday wine night, cocktail menu
Cons: weekend rush

I have eaten here twice and I find the food to be okay, not great, but nothing to write home about. What bothers me more about this place is the dismal lack of customer service. I was seated on the front patio when several termites fell from the overhang and into my food and coffee. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he quickly referred me to the hostess/manager and guess what? She moved us to another table, no apologies, no embarassment, no kidding! She even seemed annoyed that I wanted to replace my coffee. It's a good thing I was finished with my food. Needless to say, I am clearly baffled why this restaurant is still open...
Pros: Close to many better restaurants
Cons: Food and service
