Editorial Review for Big Wangs – by Katie Heffernan
The Scene
Venturing into original bar-theme territory, this barn-inspired spot offers a fun-loving country setting, but doesn't overdo the kitsch. The large diner-like front room is painted with subtle cornfield landscapes, attracting dressed-down Hollywood crowds to its tomato-red booths and two pool tables. Young imbibers take in the view of nearly a dozen sports-tuned TVs, but the biggest screen is in the barn, a wood-accented bar area with pitchforks hanging from the walls.
The Draw
Good-time vibes abound. The laid-back, mostly mid-20s crowd celebrates almost-daily drink specials with abandon, alternately engaging in laughter-filled conversation, arcade games, and another round of pitchers. A long list of megawatt specialty cocktails accompanies bar food staples like the coveted namesake garlic "chicken wangs." Though the classic rock jukebox doesn't make for great swing dancing, the flirtatious singles scene initiates ho-downs of its own.

Love, love, love this place. I don't think it tries to be anything it's not. Every friend I take here says it reminds them of a bar from back home, wherever that may be. They have the best priced beer and well drinks of any bar I've been to in Hollywood, especially given their location on the otherwise trendy Cahuenga corridor. The music is usually pretty decent, and there's a smoking patio out back. The bar itself is spacious, but it does get crowded, especially on karaoke night and during sporting events. Unfortunately, they got rid of one of their two pools tables in order to fit in more seating. (And in fact, they cover up the other pool table during football because it gets so crowded!) The food is really good "drunk food" - meaning it's greasy, cheesy, salty, etc. My favorite is their Monday night pizza and small pitcher special for $11! Yeah, the service is not great (and if you're not sitting at a table, like at the bar or window, you'll have to flag down a server), but it's Hollywood, and servers aren't hired for their customer service. Also, aside from some frat-types, there's no pretension at this bar, unlike the trendy places in Silverlake or WeHo. Oh, and I'm from Buffalo, and the wings are actually not terrible, and probably some of the best in LA - and they serve them with blue cheese, i.e. the way REAL wings are served! None of this ranch stuff!
Pros: food, price, beer selection
Cons: service, bathrooms

I want to start off by saying I have gone to Big Wangs 3 or 4 times and every time I have had a bad experiance. I Hoped it would get better, it NEVER did, really, it got worse. The LAST time my boyfriend and I were there we sat at the bar, he ordered 12 wings, they came out dry, overcooked and cold, he tried to order a beer but they were out of the first 3 he wanted so he gave up and got a coke WHICH HAD BLACK THINGS FLOATING IN IT!!! I got the nachos with chicken, they looked like they were cooked an hour before they came to me and had NO chicken. I ordered a rum and coke to drink, but they bar tender, a girl with short mousy brown hair and a snotty attitude gave me a whisky and coke instead and when I asked her to fix it she rolled her eyes and it took her at leat 10 min to get me another drink..the food came out before I got it..We ended up trying to eat what we could and leaving....but not before it took the RUDE bartender FORVER to print out the check..I guess she was too busy throwing herself at and being gropped by what I assume to be a manager, since he came behind the bar. He had short dark hair as well and a GUT. Over all this place sucked and I will never be back. the food was always bad, the bartenders are snots and the times we did sit at a table, I would have dont a better job serving myself on the sticky tables.
Pros: everything is pretty cheap
Cons: food, service, the snotty girl bartender
