great food, sucks place, really big portions, delicious tempura green tea ice cream, attentive staff, good nonsushi menu, great rolls
Horrible experience. Avoid Avoid Avoid. I used to eat at this restaurant one to two times per week Yen is apparently part of a chain that also uses the name "California Roll & Sushi Fish." Last Monday, I went to Yen together with my wife, her best friend, husband and baby who we hadn?t seen since we got married 2 months ago. When we arrived there were only two other tables occupied. 30 minutes later, we noticed that the restaurant had packed up and we still had not received any part of our order. We pointed it out to the waitress thinking perhaps they had forgotten. Within the next 15 minutes we realized that they were continuing to prepare dishes for the other people who had arrived after us but would not prepare our order. After another 5 to 10 minutes we complained again and said we would not give a tip if we didn?t get our food within the next few minutes. We observed the waitress arguing with the Sushi chef on our behalf but he would not prepare our order. The sushi chef then yelled across refusing to prepare our order altogether. There was no manager or any person accountable. WORST EXPERIENCE ANY OF US HAVE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT IN LOS ANGELES
Favorite Sushi place and restaurant!!!. I go there atleast once a week! The servers are so adorable and are always happy to see me. It is rarely crowded so it is very intimate and I always get a very comfortable feeling. The sushi chefs are artists! I am planning my birthday there soon for about 30 people and they are MORE than accomidating! I am so lucky that I live near this place, but my mom, who lives in orange county, wants to eat here every time she visits. THE FOOD, SERVICE, AND PRICES CAN'T BE BEAT!
Regarding their hygiene.
As a former LA county health inspector, i have to say i was, to say the least, concerned with their sanitation practices, or lack actually.
I'm amazed there's a "B" rating hanging on their door, if i'd seen this when i was inspecting restaurants, i would have shut this place down.
best sushi for the price. this place is like a hidden treasure - it's never too crowded (like some of the other sushi places in l.a. with 1 hour waits) - and the food is so good for the price. they have such a good non-sushi menu as well - plenty of good food for non sushi eaters.
One of the Best Sushi Places in Los Angeles. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I am a very picky person about my restaurants and I citysearch obsessively and this place surpasses all my expectation. The staff is so friendly and attentive, the food is awesome. The portions are really big and perfect to share and the prices are really cheap considering how good the food is is. The Hungry Roll and the Spicy Tuna crunchy role are the best on the menu. Save room for dessert though because their tempura green tea ice cream is delicious and enormous. Def one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Los Angeles.
YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. WE HAVE GIVEN THIS SUSHI BAR MANY CHANCES AND WE WILL NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN. WE WALKED OUT LASTNIGHT AFTER THE SUSHI CHEF MADE US THE MOST DISGUSTING YELLOW TAIL ROLL IN THE WORLD. HE LAUGHED WHEN HE ASKED IF WE WERE LEAVING ALREADY. APPARENTLY WE HAD TAKEN HIM AWAY FROM HIS BREAK TIME AS HE WAS EATING WHILE PREPARING OUR ROLL. AFTER PREPARING THE ROLL HE LEFT THE SUSHI BAR AND RETURNED TO HIS BREAK. HE WAS STOMPING AROUND MAD. APPARENTLY HE FELT LIKE HIS BREAK WAS MORE IMPORTANT. HE WAS THROWING AROUND THE SUSHI MAT LIKE A LITTLE BABY B/C HIS COWORKERS WERE ON BREAK AND THEY APPARENTLY MADE HIM WAIT ON US. SAVE YOUR MONEY. THIS PLACE SUCKS AND WILL BE GOING DOWN THE TUBES SHORTLY. ICK....ICK....AND ICK AGAIN. UGH!!!
great food. I totally dug this place. I was a little put off initially because of the so-so rating, however the fish was soo fresh and soft.. they had an amazing variety of great rolls. It was a good time.
