Horrible service...old produce? – Wow, was I sadly surprised by my visit to Jack n' Jill's of Beverly Hills today. I don't venture up to Beverly Hills often but I've seen this restaurant and suggested meetin to girlfriends there for lunch.
The three of us were seated promptly in a booth and our order was taken quickly and efficiently. The dranks came out fast and so did the food but we never saw our waiter again. Granted, it was lunch time...around 12:45 but there was no excuse for what we experienced.
Usually your server comes by about 5 minutes later to see if everything's okay but we couldn't flag him down for the life of us...and one of the walls is ceiling to floor mirrors...so we knew something was strange.
We NEVER got a refill on our iced teas and my turkey sandwhich which was supposed to have cream cheese didn't have cream cheese. The bread was dry...like it had been in a bag in the fridge for too long. My friends cobb salad was VERY sad looking. The iceburg lettuce looked weeks old...on the yellow wilted side. The side of chili was very good and the side of fresh fruit was very nice. Our server did not seem rushed, yet he never got around to asking us if everything was okay. I flagged him down once for a refill on my iced tea and ten minutes later I was about to grab the pitcher myself. My friends never got refills on their drinks. It got to the point where we felt like we had to get out of our booth to ask for the check. One of my friends handed us cash and had to get going. When we finally got our server to bring us the check I asked him if WE had done anything wrong. I asked him if he was upset that I had to ask another server to pour me a refill of tea. He simply replied, "Sorry I was busy." The other servers seemed to move more quickly than ours. It's just frustrating when you never get the opportunity to ask for the cream cheese that's supposed to go with the sandwich or the politely ask if they can re-do a cobb salad with fresh lettuce. I would never go back to Jack n' Jill's.
Consistantly Excellent – i've been a huge fan for over a year, both at the santa monica location, as well as this one... the food is what i always come back for of course, my favorites being the dayton salad when i pretend to eat healthy, and the selection of wraps and panninis. they do an amazing job with country fried steaks and burgers, and i love trying the new additions to the menu as they surface! the portions are always generous and prices reasonable, since they come with s generous salad and a chunk of home made cornbread. the coffee is very nice, and the tea selection (for the gf) is primo. the service has always been courteous and prompt, though on the weekends, they are packed! incidentally, i've spotted celebrities there with regularity, including jessicas simpson and alba! some of the waitresses are also in the business, as i have seen them on scrubs or some other tv show ~ i bring out of town guests to give them the full entourage experience :)
Good food, mediocre service – The bf and I headed out there since we had passed it a couple of times going to Nate and Al's and the new donut place that opened up nearby. We went in for an early breakfast on President's Day and it was empty except for a couple of tables. He got breakfast and I got lunch, which seemed to be served all day long, even at 8 in the morning. I got myself the blackened chicken wrap and the bf had Rob's Big Combo so that we could try the blueberry pancakes. The food took some time to come out, even though there weren't that many people there, but my wrap was great and the portion was large enough for two people to share. His breakfast wasn't as big as the name made it out to be, because he got two tiny turkey sausages, two normal-sized pancakes and some scrambled eggs. If you're looking to buy by the pound, my wrap was definitely worth the $13, and his was almost the same price, but not the same amount of food. We ordered a couple of mochas to go, so that we could walk around the neighborhood, but the mochas took forever, they didn't put them in to go cups, so he ended pouring them in the cups. The cups came with dried coffee all over them, and then the waiter put them down and ran away without telling us which one was the non-fat vs. whole milk that we ordered. So we asked and they had made them both non-fat, so I had him remake it. And then it wasn't that good at all. Amandine on Wilshire still has the best mochas. So the experience wasn't all that great, but the food made up for it. I'll definitely go back there when I'm in the area again, but won't go there anytime I'm in a rush.
Simply Tasty!!! – Delicious food!! I'm impressed. One of my favorite breakfast spots. I come here at least once a week before work and the staff is always wonderful. The breakfast panini is wonderful. Everything just tastes so fresh. I can't wait to go for lunch some time.
convenient. love that they serve breakfast all day – Good Beverly Hills restaurant. Diverse menu. Breakfast all day. Good value. Get a lollipop after the meal. Service sometimes slow.
I recommend... – ...the blackened chicken wrap and the breakfast panini. Mmm...mmm....good. Expect a long wait on the weekends though.
Best Breakfast in Santa Monica – Great place to get GREAT food. Great coffee as well. Their Turket Bacon is out of this world doused in maple syrup! Enjoy!
A wonderful place for breakfast and lunch, great service – This is a wonderful "little" restaurant even though it's actually quite large. They have a good menu with a lot of different options to suit your mood, from healthy to greasy. I like my eggs really dry and the chef made my omlette perfectly for my taste. I was so happy--it was the first omlette I'd eaten in a restaurant in years because most chefs refuse to go beyond their own personal taste in fufilling special cooking orders. I look forward to going back to J&J's. It's a great nighborhhod place.
Best Weekend Breakfast joint in Westside. – If you like good breakfast or hearty burgers, this is the place. Service is marginal and can get annoying- it's set up to be like a cafeteria or something, very casual setting. Everyone's polite, but there's no one waiting your table, so if you need anything you have to get up and walk up to the counter. But, you don't have to tip on top of the high prices of their delicious food, so there's the trade-off. Food is excellent though, some old-fashioned usuals, some very creative. It's our new favorite place.
Extremely Poor Service – I've been to Jack n' Jill's four times. I can't believe that I keep going back because the service is literally the worst that I've ever had. One time I had to wait 40 minutes for our waiter to take our order, then another 40 for the SANDWICHES to come out. We asked very politely if we could see the manager. The manager came over and his only comment was "well I guess your lunch is on me." It was very rude and not what you expect from a MANAGER... he could have apologized or something, but alas! The food is excellent, and I keep going back--what is the definition of insane again??
