In Short – Outside, an antique carousel lion guards the plate glass windows and patio tables. Inside, vintage New Orleans is conjured up with stained glass, crystal lamps, painted murals, marble cafe tables and polished wood. Jazz aficionados and JPL techies alike stop in for lumberjack breakfasts, espressos, and lunches of soups, sandwiches, and salads. Dinner kicks it up a Cajun/French notch with gumbo, escargot, catfish fingers, crawfish etoufee, smothered pork chops, shrimp Creole, steak and coq au vin.

I love this place too. Thx for the good reviews. I am so gladI checked out this spot I went with my boyfriend and had a great time. I had the etoufee, so yummy!! Mt boyfriend had the tri tip- it cutlike butter. I guess they slow roast the thing. But, I want to go back and try some other goodies on the menu. Check out the web sight thespotpasadena

Great service, ambiance, and good food to boot

by adeaton at Citysearch

We found this place (now called the Spot) in an earlier City Search review and decided to try it for Saturday night dinner with jazz as the background. When we got there we weren't sure we had the right place, because of the name change, but once inside we settled in nicely. The food is strong New Orleans style and plentiful. The jazz on Friday and Saturday nights provides a nice background. We had shrimp cakes to begin with (excellent), followed by tri-tip and jambalya. There was so much served, that it provided dinner for Sunday night also. It was good enough that we came back for Sunday brunch even though it's a good 7-8 miles from where we live. We had the same beignet experience as the other reviewer and we had the Eggs Benedict. We were originally going to keep this one to ourselves, because it's small (limited seating), but that's unfair to everyone else, particularly the owners, who really want to make this a success.

  • Pros: Very friendly, plenty of good food, jazz
  • Cons: parking, small, so you may want to call for a reservation

Terrific find, but now called "The Spot".

by guinevere48 at Citysearch

If I had read the first review from 2005 I would not have tried this place. Glad I did not because this is now a very special one-of-a-kind breakfast-lunch-dinner place. It has an inspired chef, and the place recently changed it's name to "THE SPOT", same location. Everything is reminiscent of N'Awlin's style cooking. No boring meals here, I have no complaints. We went for Sunday breakfast. Just after being seated, they brought us a complementary dish of fresh beignets (donuts Louisiana-style). The coffee was great and they kept it coming. The bread pudding french toast is a work of art, and better than I have ever tasted. Rumor has it the pork chops are incredibly fork tender. The shrimp cakes and eggs with creole sauce was simply incredible. I was hearing orgazmic moans from every table. Their very reasonably priced dinner menu looks really interesting too, and definitely carrys on the Creole theme with etouffee, jambalaya, gumbo, also chicken potpie, shrimp scampi, slow roasted tri tip, and on and on. But don't go Sunday night or Monday all day, because they are closed.

If you are into jazz, you can be sure to find it Tuesday nights (jammin session), Friday and Saturday nights, and during Sunday brunch. A very small, friendly place that I predict will burst at the seams soon. I WILL SO GO BACK!!!

  • Pros: Wonderful menu choices, very tasty food, friendly service
  • Cons: Jazz was a bit too loud, limited dining area, parking is hard to find.
