Best Damn Ice Cream / Frozen Custard in the World.
I grew up in St. Louis were the benchmark for frozen custard has been held by Ted Drews for over 75 years. I was shocked to find the nearest frozen custard company to L.A. was in Irvine. While the Irvine custard was better than no custard at all, I have been absolutely depressed to be without my favorite dessert. That was until I found Chuck Nix and his Silky Smooth Ultra Premium Ice Cream at the Beverly Center.
OMG!! I never thought I would toss out my love of Ted Drews Frozen Custard but there's a cold cup (or cone) of heaven at the Beverly Center that is simple the best damn Ice Cream / Frozen Custard in the world.

SilkySmooth is a real gem hidden away in the Beverly Center, LA's best kept frozen dessert secret (think Pinkberry 2.0 in 2008...).
Silky has been my "secret addiction" for over a year now...their low-carb splenda-sweetened "SilkySlim" is my guilt-free weekday indulgence that is ok for my low-carb diet (in moderation of course). Their regular stuff is all low fat too, so I alternate on weekends.
SilkySmooth is the only MicroCreamery in LA that I know of -- they hand-blend each flavor using freshly trucked-in Wisconsin dairy base, and their microbatches are made on display all day, never "hard frozen" as with other gelato & ice cream. It's made and served at 18 degrees F, allowing full flavor without the tongue-numbing cold typical with other frozen treats. I'm now a "Silky Snob" and refuse to go back to icy, grainy numb tongue stuff. BTW, its cool to watch the silky ribbons slide down the chute!
SilkySmooth is a fusion of hand-crafted Artisan Gelato (think Bulgarini), fresh Frozen Custard (think Kopps, Leon's, Ted Drewes & The Shake Shack but with lower butterfat), and hand-cranked, Homemade Ice Cream (think super-fresh ingredients, never hard frozen & thawed back out). As for shakes, try a SilkyWhip--they serve it upside down! Ultra smoooooth too.
Ask for the owner "Kalaya" --and start out with their addictive Vanilla Explosion, followed by sensual SilkyMilk Chocolate, sublime Kalaya Coffee, then try a Velvety-smooth whole-fruit sorbetto or smoothie--hard to believe there's no dairy in these!
For fun, I have WhiteCastle Cheeseburgers (yea, they're nuked), and wash 'em down with a rare, imported, all natural Dutch Fanta Orange--which is actually better than HFCS-sweetened US Orangina! Silky Smooth is the first retail shop in the US to ban HFCS entirely, yet they carry a full line of name-brand sodas! They are at the leading edge of the move back to Pure Natural Cane Sugar as a beverage sweetener. Imagine how good their floats are! YUMMERIFIC!
Smooth, Light, Creamy. The ice cream is quite creamy for being such low in fat. The texture was reallly smooth. They say their ice cream is a combination of a frozen yogurt and regular ice cream. It is creamier than frozen yogurt and it doesn't melt as quickly. It is softer than regular ice cream and without the fat. My favorite is Vanilla. I've tried strawberry and chocolate and they were not as good as vanilla. A scoop of ice cream in a cup comes with a cone shaped wafer, reall cute!

Heaven in a cup!. Go find Silky Smooth at the Beverly Center...7th floor Macy's exit just like the listing says. You are not a true ice cream lover until you've tried this. I love the fact that its 40% less fat too. For ice cream fanatics like me....its perfect. You have got to try this, especially after a long shopping haul.
