Vanessa is AMAZING!.
When I lived in West Hollywood I literally just had turn a corner and take a few steps and I was at Floyd's. I went there for about two years and always got a 'good' cut (way better than Super Cuts on La Brea -Yikes!). A few months before I moved to Santa Monica Vanessa started working there and I just happened to get her one evening and... Wow! It's like she's reading your mind. It's not that my hair is all that complicated (I got a messy yet professional thing going) but when you see it done perfectly you know it. Even though I have to drive a little further to see her now she is totally worth it!

BAD qulity.
I got a terrible cut in all of 6 minutes - they woman rushed through so fast leaving holes, uneven lines, it was just a mess, and then she was done, she said how is it, and i commented that i would like a little more off the sides. This seemed to bother her, and she gave me a tude about it.
I hear her and another guy complain that "hey its a $20 cut" and "these people" want you to spend extra time and not get paid for it ... or something to that effect.
NO TIP - NO RETURN VISIT

Hit or Miss... mostly MISS.
Very hit or miss, but the last few cuts have been awful, so I've given up and won't be back. I've had a couple of decent cuts at Floyd's when I first started going, but too many of their so-called stylists are not properly trained with little experience. And, it seems the goal is high-turnover, so they rush though a cut, with little attention to detail or quality. And, out of 7 or so cuts, I've had the "massage" offered only twice. I guess some stylists want to save the time and don't offer or they don't feel comfortable with it.
My bad cuts came from inexperienced stylists using a razor, creating a patchy, uneven look -- not noticeable at the time of the the cut, but very apparent after 2 - 3 weeks of re-growth -- HORRIBLE... no symmetry, no rhyme or reason (except for the rush to get another butt in the chair). Some of the layers had a straight, blunt, thick edge, some had an angle, some layers were more wispy.
With it being a holiday weekend and needing a cut, I was desperate and went to a local, un-trendy, mini-mall to have the bad Floyd's cut fixed. The stylist knew exactly what I needed and even said repeatedly "I can't believe they did this to your hair. They butchered it!" She did an excellent fix, but the low-cost Floyd's cut ended up costing double, as I had to go elsewhere to fix it.
I will never return to Floyd's. I'd be better off being a guinea pig at a beauty school or going to SuperCuts. At least with SuperCuts, you walk in knowing not to expect much. The trendy atmosphere in Floyd's can lull you into thinking that you're about to get a cut from a professional -- not so. Again, it's hit or miss. mostly miss!

Trendy Salon.....
I have had a couple of bad haircuts at this place, but for the most part I have been pleased with the results. The people are very friendly and always have a good story to tell. The location on Melrose is great. I recommend this place for a nice, affordable haircut.

Scott Riffe.
Scott never fails to do a great job on my hair, its unfortunate that he no longer works at Floyds. As for the negative comments about him below, I have no idea what these people are talking about. He's entertaining, personable, funny but most importantly he does his job very well!!! Floyd has lost a irreplaceable talent.

RIFFE IS THE MAN!.
I've had Scott cut my hair many times and each time he brings new character to what I thought was almost hopeless hair. I trust him every time and that's a huge relief. I've had very few "stylists" or barbers seem to care how I look a week or a month after I leave their shop. Scott removes the worry factor. Now, if you've got unreal standards and want to look like the picture of someone else but don't have the same hair or want him to read your mind, of course you're going to have a bad experience.
Talk to him, let him be himself and if you get a vibe you can't handle, speak up, he's flexible and very humble when prompted. Don't mistake a fun attitude for being full of himself. Get a life, you losers. It's a freakin' $20 haircut from a guy who trained deeper than you can imagine. Stop trying to chop him down because your freakin' ego is out of control.

Laaaaame cut from Riffe.
My regular guy Tony was off so got a haircut from Riffe instead and he's awful. My fringe is lopsided and my layers are uneven. Worse was listening to him brag about "celebrity" clients he used to do that I've never even heard of. Floyd's should send that tool back to beauty school. Tony is good though so go see him. 1 star for Riffe and 4 for Tony.

Great spot to get your hair cut.
A very cool spot to get your hair cut without breaking the bank. the atmosphere is great and located right on Melrose.
Prices are reasonable and I think they do a good deal for your first time in. Highly recommend!

they fixed my fried Sirens Salon hair!.
I went Floyd's after a terrible experience with Kristin at SIRENS SALON up the street...
I want everyone to know they fixed my super fried hair
and now I just have to grow it all back after what the other salon did it me!
go to a salon thats busy and w/ a stylist, you can see
their skills right away, so don't wait till they it hurts & they
ruin your head and then laugh it off like it looks cool!
