A Wonderful Experience. The Shade Hotel is an experience that everyone should try and more than once! It is located very close to the beach promenade and near many terrific restaurants.

The rooms at The Shade are all unique. The lightening, jacuzzi tubs, the decor make each room feel special.

The staff is not only processional but they go out of their way to make you feel as if you are the only one staying there.

I would highly recommend this as a get away for that someone special in your life or even just to treat yourself.

Trendy Hotel Close To the Beach. There are not a lot of nice hotels in South Bay that are actually on or within blocks of the beach (Beach House Hermosa is the other great option). Keep in mind that Manhattan is hilly and you'll still have about a two-block walk down to the beach. With the opening of Shade a few years ago, there is finally a trendy, boutique destination that is not only close to the beach, but it serves up a great bar scene in its own lobby and rooftop terrace bars. Although it doesn't have an ocean view, the rooftop bar has two jacuzzis that are more for atmosphere than soaking, numerous heat lamps for cool CA evenings, and tasty mojitos.

My Fav Place. First of all, my girlfriends and I go to Shade all the time and we are NOT Cougars (mid-20's). Shade has a great selection of wine and martinis and we always meet cool people. Hope to c u there :)

SHADE ROCKS!. Love this place! Great vibe to grab drinks and meet people. I would suggest trying one of the sub zero martinis.

Friendly People and Great Food... what's not to like?. I just visited the zinc lounge and had a Fantastic time! The food was delicious, my favorite was definitely the Ahi :) The drinks, well let me just say: Oh Ya! The drinks were um how do i put this, AMAZING. The prices were compariable to other bar and resturaunts of its type in the area and in comparison were well worth it especially since they offer drinks that are not only dangerously yummy but also Very Unique. I had a drink called the "frozen orchid" which was like nothing I had ever had before and was served in an amazing glass made of ice and the taste, lets just say my boyfriend has competition because I think I'm in Love! Plus, there was a good variety on their drink menu. Also, I happen to be a fairly indecisive individual and it took me a long time to decide on what I should commit to for my first drink..like 30 minutes and included an extensive interview with the bartender for suggestions.. and I really appreciated how friendly and knowledgable the staff was with helping me decide on the right drink..which as you know can be a big decision on a saturday night! To address other reviews i read: I noticed another review suggested it was a "cougar den" and only had older people. I just have to say I am in my mid 20s and I had a great time and found the people in the bar to be a fun group of people. I met some wonderful business men visiting from australia (some my age and some older) and had a fantastic and humorous chat w/them. Overall, I found that the ages varied, with a very nice sophisticated and friendly crowd (Besides who says just 'cause your older you don't know how to have a good time?? The older australian business man had more drinks than any of us!) For the record I am not an employee or in any association, other than that I take my eating and drinking experiences very seriously! overall I gotta say that I highly recommend checking it out, I will definitely be going back, saturday with my girls in fact, so hey maybe I will see you there!

Very Affordable & Very Romantic. The day after I got married we stayed at Shade on Sunday Night before leaving LAX to Hawaii for our Honey moon. In Hawaii we stayed at Hyatt Regency (4 Star Hotel)..but me and my wife agreed that Shade's Room was much much better than Hyatt. (Well, Hyatt has nice huge swimming pool and great buffet)

I called all the Romantic Hotel on this City Search Top 10, to see if they have Jacuzzi in the room (That's what my wife wanted). And found out that many Hotels these days don't have Jacuzzi, since people usually use quick shower. Also places i called would cost me from $400 - $500 per night, whereas Shade on Sunday Night special only cost me $195 with $50 Dine & Drink Credit to use at the Hotel. (Very Nice~!) This was August 2008 and now it cost $225 to get same deal but still cheaper than other Romantic Hotels mentioned here on City Search. I added $60 to upgrade my room to Romance Package. They put beautiful White Rose petals around the bath tab, with complimentary Champagne and Strawberry Chocolate dipped into white chocolate. If you are hungry late at night you can call the lobby and they can get foods from nearby restaurant and delivered them to your room. We ordered buffalo wings and chinese chicken salad, and not only price of the food is cheaper than Denny's, but also tasted much much better than Denny's. My wife wants to go there again and I will definitely take her to Shade again. Wish they had some kind of Membership card to get better deal, so we can stay there more frequently.

Best Romantic Hotel - Great for Honeymoon. This place is simply awesome. I used to work for a very famous hotel corporation and none of the brands could come close to what this place has to offer.

Here are some incredible features.

1) Very romantic rooms - This place is made for love. The rooms have complete control panels that allow you to turn on and off and dim every light in the room. The rooms are also very "sound proof" so you won't hear neighbors walking around the hallways or noise coming from adjoining rooms.

2) Completely unique features - They have this incredible feature which is a glass cylinder that at the switch of a button, turns on a rod of fire. It's a compact, completely futuristic form of a fireplace. Absolutely beautiful to look at and can keep the room warm as well. Also, I highly recommend the rooms with a spa. The spa is wonderful and the room has sliding doors throughout the bathroom which can change colors. It offers a completely unique and romantic experience. The room also has a bar, complete with glasses, coffee maker, and blender. Also, they have this crazy rolling table which allows you to have a workstation/eating station right on the bed.

3) Excellent service - The staff offered us a complimentary bottle of champagne because it was our honeymoon night. The service is excellent. Also, they offer a complimentary breakfast at the Zinc Lounge which is delicious and inviting. And they also offer free DVD rentals. You just call up the front desk, tell them what movie you want to watch, and within a minute or two (no exaggeration), they come to your door and give you the DVD. Amazing!

Changes for the best!. I had been to Zinc lounge a couple of times a while back, and always enjoyed it, how ever the 'cougar' den idea wasn't far off. Recently I returned on a Saturday to find the place filled with the younger, well-dressed MB crowd that I love. The menu has been changed too, the food has always been great, but now the new additions and dinner size portions make it even better- I'm slightly addicted to the ahi carpaccio and the new dessert menu will make any girl happy! (banana foster really did improve my mood!) The decor has always been super nice, a kind of modern beach vibe, and the couches are really great for hanging with friends if you don't want to sit at the bar. And the best part- they have these martinis that they serve in frozen ice glasses! Good food, nice atmosphere, hot surfer boys, and never a warm drink...I'm liking the new vibe!

Can't stand this place. I can't believe there are positive reviews for this place. Do ya think one of the owners or managers wrote the other spectacular reviews? Maybe? Duh! Shade is the ultimate cougar den and any female under 35 is a Paris Hilton wannabe beyotch. Drinks are expensive and the bathroom is at the other end of the hotel. Yeah, the decorating looks cool but the people there [insert derroagatory adjective of choice]. Old divorcees, male and female, trying to relive the good old days. It's like high school with money and wrinkles. Ugh, hate this place. Oh, and by the time you have to leave (they close early), it's too late to get in anywhere.
