In Short
From the retro entrance wall of Lucite circles, fish swimming behind modernist white frames, creamy drapes and regal red-on-gold carpets, the atmosphere is cool and sophisticated. The restaurant occupies the prime corner spot in a mixed-use residential complex. A photocopied dim sum menu lists daily specials like baked turnip cake, crystal shrimp dumplings and congee (rice porridge). Dinnertime offerings include braised sea cucumber, steamed whole fish, lobster fruit salad and crispy fried squab.

I went to Lunasia on New Year's Day and waited an hour to be seated. (We had a party of six.) I didn't know that they had recently changed owners and name (formerly Triumphal Palace). After reading a bunch of reviews online while waiting, I was expecting OK food. However, much to my surprise the food was very good (chicken feet, egg tarts, steamed spare ribs, shrimp rice noodle rolls, beef rice noodle rolls, siu mai, har gow, sticky rice wrap). The chicken feet was so good that we got two more orders (yes, I know, some of you think it's gross but to each his own). The only thing I didn't care for was the asparagus slices they put in the shrimp rice noodle rolls--never seen that before and thought it was unnecessary (didn't enhance the flavor nor appearance). The staff was friendly and the food was served quite fast despite the madness of the holiday. It doesn't bother me that the restaurant's Chinese name is derived from a HK TV drama (Moonlight Resonance)...as long as the food and service are good, I'd definitely go back.

This place seems to always have a crowd no matter what time you go, so if you are in the mood for ethnic food, I would recommend going early. The place is located right next to the movie theaters if you are looking for something to do afterward.

I grew up in Los Angeles, have lived in the Bay Area and now live in New York. This is the best Dim Sum that I have ever had anywhere. To any New York clowns that think NY has better dim sum or chinese than LA or the Bay for that matter, you are wrong. That woman Alice below has no idea what she is talking about. I was just there a couple months ago and it has not fallen off at all. It is a little bit of a trek depending where you live in Los Angeles. Other dim sum reccomendations for LA are New Concept (may have closed), Ocean Star seafood (Monterrey Park), Mission 321. The best in Chinatown are Empress Pavilion and Ocean Seafood. Mushroom Shumai at Ocean is incredible and most other dim sum spots dont have it.
