Elegant seaside dining at Redondo Beach's premier hotel.. At once airy and cozy, this waterfront spot inside the Hotel Portofino & Yacht Club sits on a spit of land facing King Harbor. Two large stone fireplaces give glowing warmth to the dark wood interior while open harbor-side windows let in the light sea breeze. Daniel Roberts, former executive chef of the Mondrian Los Angeles, has fashioned a creative, seafood-centric menu infused with decadent global flavors. (Lobster and truffle studded mac & cheese, anyone?) Also on the menu are seafood classics like cioppino, seared jumbo scallops and pan-seared salmon, all with fresh ingredients and thoughtful plating. But if seafood's not your thing, try the ginger-sweet soy braised short ribs, with truffle asiago potato puree and crispy onions. Top off your meal with one of the desserts: The more adventurous should try the warm blueberry soup with cinnamon ice cream, while traditionalists will want to opt for the chocolate brownie sundae, served with a house-made chocolate caramel sauce.
WOW. If you haven't tried this place recently, try again! There is a new chef in the kitchen and the food is incredible.
South Bay's Hidden Shining Gem. Exceptional food. Special ambiance. Attentive service. Must check out the tasty bar menu. Beautiful space from when you enter. main fireside dining room reminded me of evenings in Hawaii with the large open windows and ocean close by. Love, Love, Love the bar ambience. Chic and comfortable. For breakfast and lunch, one of the few places in the South Bay that you can dine right next to the water. Can't wait to go back.
Great view, good food. Took my family for my wife's birthday on a Sunday evening. Only 3-4 tables were occupied. Initially, service was attentive and friendly. Later, when it was busier, our server only came by once or twice within an hour to check on us and we had to flag her down for water, desert, check, etc. The food was good but not great. Clam chowder was thick and flavorful with lots of clams. My wife's seabass was excellent. The lamb special was ordered cooked medium, but it came out rare and only luke warm. Cioppino contained more vegetables than seafood and little broth. The presentation and plating were very good.
Impress, Impressed and loved every minute of it.. My husband and myself have dined in some of the best restaurants in the world. So our friends know we are foodies, Both of us love to cook with the freshest ingredients and have taking those expensive cooking classes in France and Italy, So, when we invited some of our very best friends to join us for dinner, we chose Baleen. Wow, were our friends impressed. From the time they parked their car at the restaurant to until they the time they left, everything was Perfect. The manager of the restaurant ,special events coordinator and Chef Brian, worked hard to make sure that the evening was perfect. We started with a variety of appetizers, Tuna Tartar and the classic shrimp cocktail. Then had a beautifully prepared Pear and Arugula Salad with real aged blue cheese, this was followed either the real man filet of beef or Organic Chicken. If you want to impress or be impressed we recommend Baleen Restaurant
Worst Restaurant Experience Ever----SAVE YOURSELF and run the opposite way!!!.
Worst Restaurant Experience ever!!!!!!!!
Thought I'd try out this place, i was shocked when i saw all of the fruit files throughout the entire restaurant. The waiter didn't seem to care to do his job, forgetting cutlery for desert and coffee which was cold and literally walking away from us and no one in sight barely to even swat all of the flies away, forgetting our meal, forgetting water, my wine, the place actually smelled really bad too ;p All of the pictures don't reflect the food either, they changed the way they cook and prepare the food, If you value being treated with class or even acknowledgment than go to the nearest Cheesecake factory or even McDonalds, they're much cleaner and friendlier, they rarely forget your cutlery, the extra ingredients for the desert and drinks!!!! Horrible Experience!
