great bar food, always order burger, quite good mac n cheese, favorite place, amazing service, overpriced badtasting salads, great combo
Great food!. The burgers are definitely some of the best you will ever have and very reasonably priced. The onion rings are a great addition and the fries that come with the burgers are great and have an extra garlic kick to them. The mac 'n cheese is good, but it was a bit too rich to eat an entire plate for me. Would have been better split between two people and paired with something else on the menu. The service is definitely not the greatest, be prepared to go grab a server or you will wait forever, although they are very friendly. I'm sure that timing is a factor and when the bar is busy they definitely seem to be a bit understaffed with servers. The food all tastes very fresh. Easy parking across the street on Culver Blvd., and they don't have a cover charge. We generally try to get in and out before the karaoke gets started.
HAMBURGERS!!!!!!!!!!. I love Hamburgers. I can eat three square meals a day consisting of hamburgers. After eating Misti's burger, I have found that I love HAMBURGERS even more. HUGE, JUICY, DELICIOUS, CHEESY, FRESH, TOASTED SOURDOUGH HAMBURGERS. I think I need another one.
Horrible Salad and Service.
After reading the great reviews for Misti's Kitchen, my friends and I decided to check it out for a chill dinner around 8:30 on a Saturday night. The place hadn't gotten busy yet, but all the but one near the bathroom were reserved. It REEKED. Seriously smelled disgusting. Honestly, I've never smelled such a foul bathroom; my friend who was seated closest to it looked so miserable. Luckily, the waitress let us switch tables and put the reserved sign on the table by the stinky bathroom.
Service was very subpar. After waiting for 5-10 minutes (and the bar was not busy yet), we had to get up and go chase her down. The food took awhile to make and when it was ready, we saw it sitting at the window for at least 5 minutes before the waitress noticed and brought it to us (again, the bar was still not busy yet). And every time we wanted to order drinks, we could never seem to find the waitress. And again, when it came time to get our bill, we had to get up and go find her. But the check didn't come for a good 10-15 minutes later. Granted, the bar was busier by this time, but considering we had to chase her down the entire night, it was pretty irritating.
We ordered the house salad, the cobb salad, and the mac and cheese. The salads were bad. I asked for no mushrooms on the cobb salad but they somehow still ended up in there. And the dressing was a bit heavy and was kind of strange. The mac and cheese, however, was quite good. The hint of garlic made it taste really good. I recommend it but definitely stay away from those overpriced, bad-tasting salads. Overall, my friends and I were not impressed at all.
Yum! Not Just Best Bar Food - Best Food Ever!. This is my favorite place to eat. I drop by at least twice a week and I don't even drink. I'd eat there more often if I lived closer. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu, but my faves are the salads. They're huge, handmade and taste like no other salads on the planet. I'll say it again, yum. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. And, it helps to see the same smiling face thru that little window. Does Misti ever leave the Backstage? She's obviously devoted to her kitchen and she's the only un-famous chef that I know of that has a loyal following. Whenever I eat at the Backstage, I usually sit at the bar and conversation with my bar mates always turns to Misti and the food. I've even swapped tastes with strangers! Now I have to say something nice about the Backstage. It's cozy, friendly, homey and fun. I don't know where they find the people that work there, but they are just unnaturally friendly (at least for L.A.). I felt like family the first time I went there. They keep trying to get me to return at night and, even though I don't drink, I might just do it. (Ok, Jane?) I've made more friends and had better food at the Backstage than anywhere else in L.A. (and I've been here 8 years now from the midwest). Viva Misti! Viva Backstage! Don't ever go away or I'll leave LA!
Not just bar food. I went to Backstage because they host Kareoke three days a week. My friends and I were hungry and decided to order food. I was expecting something deep fried after spending several years in the freezer. Not only was I completely wrong, but the food was just delicious. I had the skirt steak salad - to die for. My friend ordered the mac-n-cheese and that was awesome as well. I highly recommend this place and will be back again.
UNBELIEVABLE FOOD. I went to the Backstage because I keep hearing how great the food is. I'm not easily impressed so I went thinking how great can bar food be. Well this bar food is good enough to impress me along with all my friends and all their friends. This "bar" better watch out or it's going to be known for its food not its drinks!!!! It's nice to be impressed
Misti can cook. I have to say Misti's kitchen at the backstage is doing it all right! She's the best chef around & the cutest! You're missing out if you don't give it a shot. By far the best burger I've ever had
Editorial Review. Service kitchen for the attached Backstage bar. Menu includes finger food appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees like ribs, skirt steak.
not just great bar food. I went because it was voted best bar food, but I have to say it's much more than bar food. It's just great food! I always order her burger (best I've ever had) but this time I tried a special she had and I will definately be back again and again and again!!!!
