What People Are Saying About Bar Lubitsch

In Short – From bar czar Sean MacPherson (Good Luck, Jones) and Jared Meisler (former Bar Marmont manager) comes this red-drenched vodka bar and dance club--a nod to Russian decadence. A crowd of Sunset traditionalists descends on the boxy entrance and into a Bolshevik-chic playground of elaborate chandeliers, Mao-red walls and a sexy spin on communist-era uniforms strutted by the staff. Keeping elements of its predecessor that worked, the dance floor and bar are still in the same place, albeit with a much more elegant design.

Editor's Tips

What to Drink:
A list of more than 200 vodkas spills over with innovative drinks ranging from the Cucumber Mojito to the Molotov cocktail.
Look Good:
Located halfway between Boys' Town and the hip part of Hollywood, your best bet for area bar-hopping is neighboring Winston's.
Know Before You Go:
The bar is initially avoiding one-night event promotions and guest lists--instead offbeat DJs are regularly featured. Still, weekends are busy so try and arrive before 10pm.

  1. We had a lot a fun dancing, which was down to the fact that we had a great group of friends, and not down to the music, which was really poor.
  2. They did everything to make sure that my guests were happy and having fun.
  3. Vibe is great, staff was friendly and professional, The music was fun and eclectic (and not too loud) in the front room, and the DJ had it louder and more grooving in the back room.
  4. truly abominable treatment of people looking to have fun on a Friday.
  5. The dark atmosphere is normally nice, but this was almost pitch black.
  6. Cool decor, not so cool crowd
  7. The signature cocktails are really fun and unique.
  8. The decor is great, although Russia is not the first place that sprang to mind - it felt more French in the front room.
  9. Our group ventured into the back room, which had a great atmosphere going, and was just the right side of full, especially for a Wednesday night.

  1. nice place to have an early drink with friends, unless you crave the later scene.
  2. and Bryan at the back bar recommended a great vodka I've never even seen/heard of before.
  3. The staff was great and the drinks are wonderful.
  4. My new favorite bar!
  5. The signature cocktails are really fun and unique.
  6. They have great drinks and what's even better is they serve Absinthe.
  7. While this place is always packed, it almost doesn't matter because it has so many other pros--good vodka drinks, an awesome dj, and a lively dance floor.
  8. drinks are pricey, not a fan of that but I'm well paid so I don't mind too much.
  9. had a couple of vodka cocktails, as befits the place, but I have to agree with the nice man at the bar that they use some poor quality vodka - it was vile.
  10. The staff are super friendly and the waitresses in the back do a great job of delivering drinks despite the throngs of crazy dancing people.
  11. The music was good and so were the drinks.
  12. The ID obsession is funny at first, and then it becomes annoying, as it did at this bar, when the doorman decided that my driving license was insufficient and asked me if I had my passport with me.
  13. The specialty drinks are amazing.
  14. The bar itself has some beautiful people and stiff drinks, but it definitely lacks the Hollywood pretension.
  15. The drinks are normal prices from $8-12, the service; very nice and the music; very funky, 80s, old school, and 70s.
  16. This was a great place to relax and the drinks.
  17. love Bar Lubitsch and it has become my new go to bar.
  18. Then this summer/fall we started hitting it up again lots after drinking at our favorite martini bar Lola's just down the street on fairfax.
  19. Best crowd, awesome drinks and great music!
  20. I'm so happy to have such an excellent new bar in my neighborhood.
  21. Great drinks, great service!
  22. 10 of us drinking inside would have been a lot of gross on the bar - 10 happy people?

  5. 10 of us drinking inside would have been a lot of gross on the bar - 10 happy people?
  6. truly abominable treatment of people looking to have fun on a Friday.
  7. Everyone made sure that my date and I were having a good time--from the attentive bartenders, to the bouncer, to the manager making sure that the patio was toasty on a cool WeHo night.
  8. The drinks are normal prices from $8-12, the service; very nice and the music; very funky, 80s, old school, and 70s.
  9. The staff was great and the drinks are wonderful.
  10. The waitress wear these little red dresses (imagine Barbarella in Moscow circa 1935), and all the staff are looking good.
  11. The bar itself has some beautiful people and stiff drinks, but it definitely lacks the Hollywood pretension.
  12. Going through a dark, red, corridor you end up at the backroom, where there are a few people dancing to some interesting spins (not the "latest" hits you would find at a supper lounge).
  13. Great drinks, great service!
  14. They are super duper friendly and helpful.

Fantastic Russian Dive

by HUNTER22

I heard their Vodka drinks were expensive but hefty so I dropped in on a random Monday. The front room is all it's been said to be. Very much like an old diner. The drinks are insane though! $20 for a specialty drink, but it was worth it.. I was knocked off my feet with just the one. I liked that I really got my money's worth. I heard about the back, "Red Room" too. I guess they do little shows back there or something- it was $5 to get in, but the music was worth it. I saw three musicians and walked away with a CD. Not bad for a Monday night. I was told some of the people I liked are regular performers there which was nice. I hate going to a place, seeing the person once then having to get on an email list to follow them. I prefer just hitting up the same bar or whatever to check out good music. Acts I saw that night that I liked: Danielle Taylor, Shandi Matthews, and Jason Young. Parking is a little tough so beware, but on the whole I give this place 4 outta 5 stars. Great Monday night hang out.

Bar Lubitsch

by NightOwlK

I came here the night of my birthday, well the night before my birthday, because my birthday was on a Sunday and who wants to go out on a Sunday night and fear being hungover on a Monday? Anywhoo, I came here October 2nd, don't know why its taken so long for my review to be written!

The last couple times I have been here, I never knew there was a back room! WTF?! Why had I not known this?? Now it makes sense how there are so many reviews for this place? Otherwise, I would just think yeah its a cool small bar.

This place has good music, not the typical top 40's type. I heard some MSTRKRFT and even a Deadmau5 song! Woo hoo!!

I feel like the bar is split into two different sub bars, the back room is a more sensual style and is where booties are shaking and the beats are beating! The main bar reminds me of a bar in a lobby of a hotel somehow.

The bartenders are great even when it's crowded. They have many a vodkas to choose from, including Tito's! Their signature drinks are great as well, I remember we got a few Moscow Mules. Veddy Veddy Good!

Yeah the people who come here can seem like the typical Hollywood crew, but they arent as bad as the places on Hollywood Blvd. There is a giant mashup of different varieties of people here, and it makes for the drunken conversation to be much better! I chatted it up with a couple of promoters who were there celebrating their friends birthday as well, and then with a hippy couple. I love it.

I love you Lubitsch

Awesome entertainment

by helene Udy

Saw Lisa Zane who appears there on Monday nights.

Awesome crowd!

Lisa Zane the singer I saw, transforms the room with her passion and tales of love and loss . I was reminded of all those gorgeous full throated ladies of torch from all over the world. But then! I found out most of the music was written and composed by her. The evening was completely unrefined, in its utter refinement;.Sometimes Raucous, sometimes emotional, she's got a wicked wit, which is rare for a beauitiful woman,. I dug it.Ps: The place is awesome too. Like an old Russian pub. Low lights , mirrors brick walls. And gorgeous people everywhere.

I

  • Pros: Cool hang
  • Cons: had to find if you dont know it.
