In Short – While this stylish eatery, just a stone's throw from the L.A. Times, may be part of a chain--don't be deceived. It dishes up some of the city's best gourmet pizza using organic seasonal ingredients and recipes haute enough to give Nancy and Mario pause. Lunchtime packs in downtown city workers who order pizza, paninis, pasta and salads at the counter and get their food delivered while seated at one of the spacious window booths or wooden tables. The signature pie features local burrata, organic arugula, caramelized onions, hazelnuts and pesto; another mingles rapini, baked…
Editor's Tips
- What to Drink:
- An interesting wine list features Jewel Viognier, Chateau Marouine Rose, Formulae Super Tuscan, McManus Cabernet and Project 3000 Syrah; bottles run $17 to $38, and wine by the glass is $5 to $6. Beers span from pitchers of Pabst Blue Ribbon to bottles of Pinkus Organic Pilsner, and there's also a house sangria and watermelon lemonade.
- The Extras:
- For fans of Auntie Em's giant cupcakes there's no need to trek to Eagle Rock--here you'll find their famous red velvet, as well as chocolate, coconut and carrot.
- Fun Fact:
- Local-vores will be happy to know that the kitchen sources most products locally from McGrath Family Farms, Stanislaus Tomatoes and L.A.'s farmers' markets.

Don't try to eat here alone!!!!
by CharlieGeo at Citysearch
Went in around 11:30 and ordered and sat at a booth. About five minutes late this douche who must have fancied himself a manager asked me if I was dining alone. I said I was, so he asked me to move to a smaller table since they got busy at lunch time. There were about 20 empty tables and booths at this time. Unfortunately I didn't tell him to get me a refund so I could leave, but instead moved to a two seater table and ate my lunch. By the time I left at 11:45 there were three new tables. Two booths had filled with two people each, the exact number my new table held also. So basically this douche pissed off a customer and lost any future business for nothing. Way to go. Hope you get Manager of the Year!
Pizzas, salads and soups
by Jessica Lopez at Citysearch
My real rating would hover around a 3.7.
I like this place, it's clean bright, cheery and a perfect place for a lunch break downtown. Parking can be a bit of a pain at times, but the quick service here makes up for it.
I always order the same this here the BBQ Salad hold the chicken and cheese which they serve with a piece of fresh baked focaccia that's pretty darn good. The Tuscan bean soup here is tasty too. I also hear that the pizza's are very good.
It's a solid place, nothing out of this world, but when you work downtown, you're very grateful for places like these. The service is fast and friendly and the food always tastes fresh.
- Pros: fast service, fresh food
- Cons: parking, lines at lunch time.
hit or miss

Hit or miss.
We occasionally order from Pitfire and it's off and on. Tonight we ordered a pizza and added extra ingredients.
There were four olives to spots with cheese and basically we received bread with red sauce on it... for 11 bucks.
Pasta is great, then arrives cold. Sometimes the order is full, other times it's 1/2 the size.
There needs to be some SERIOUS management and food policy changes. This is literally the umpteenth time they have given us a totally deranged order from what we could get from Pizza Hut. Next time, order Pizza Hut or Rocket Pizza. 100 times better.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Spotty service
Good lunch spot w/ co-workers or for a large group
by kellyt at Citysearch
My co-workers and I would go to Pitfire at least once a week. It's quick...you order at the counter and then seat yourself. My favorite lunch dishes are:
-Tuna Panini
-BBQ Chicken Salad...no longer on the menu =(
They also have a stamp card (I believe you buy 10 items and then get 1 free) & also have a KCRW discount.
- Pros: Quick for lunch, KCRW discount, happy hour
- Cons: Sometimes very crowded at lunch & recently changed menu
For Italian lovers

I'm all about Italian and Japanese food. I'd be perfectly fine with going to Pitfire Pizza one day and sushi restaurant the next. The pasta and pizza are unbelievable. Check it out!
