What People Are Saying About Mia Sushi

Featured Review

In Short – This upscale, stylish space is Eagle Rock's entry into trendy sushi-ville. Hipsters and young professionals flock to this artsy Zen-modern room, which is decorated with giant, gilded Buddha carvings, flickering with votives and rocking to a clubby beat. An idyllic patio features a glass waterfall fountain, bamboo and stone. The menu includes a full selection of sushi, specialty rolls like a traditional California with baked lobster and eel sauce, and entrees like seafood tempura and grilled filet mignon.

Editor's Tips

Parking:
The valet is convenient, but nearby street parking is usually readily available.
What to Drink:
Premium hot and cold sake, beer and a few select wines are served; the corkage fee is $9.
Look Good:
The restaurant's interior is fairly intimate, but the patio is an excellent space for a larger party, and may be reserved. There's an 18-percent gratuity included on parties of six or more.
ambiance
87.5% positive
  1. Neither a fun experience nor good food.
  2. We began looking around the restaurant and found there was a nice ambiance and a mix of college students and locals.
  3. Great sushi, great service, great location.
  4. They have valet, and a cool sushi bar and nice decor (if you want to impress a special he/she).
  5. I've tried to like other places, but Mia has never been anything but yummy, fun, and a good experience.
  6. The sushi was no where near as good as what we're used to having either in Studio City or in Pasadena, and the atmosphere was lousy to boot.
  7. The staff has always been friendly and fun.
  8. Also obnoxious is the valet service when there is ample street parking just a few feet in front of the restaurant.
dessert
100.0% positive
  1. The calamari are always crispy and light, the sushi looks and tastes like a work of art, and the dessert (strawberry and banana tempura on whipped cream drizzled in chocolate sauce!)
  2. For dessert we were recommended the house specialty: fresh strawberry and banana tempura, with a dab of fresh whipped cream and dribbles of chocolate syrup.

  1. They have valet, and a cool sushi bar and nice decor (if you want to impress a special he/she).
  2. Sit at the sushi bar for good service!
  3. The food was all terrible, the drink selection crappy and everything way overpriced.
food quality

  1. think good food is good food and I think Mia is consistently good food.
  2. But worst of all is the sushi.
  3. The food was delicious, the service was very attentive, and vibe was cool and no the music wasnt too loud - it was actually at just the right level.
  4. The food was great!
  5. My wife and I love Sushi and are always excited to try new spots and usually eat sushi about once a week.
  6. The sushi is average, there are some creative takes on rolls.
  7. The rice was dry, the fish oily and most of the time it was all drizzled in some overbearing sauce or stuffed full of mayo.
  8. Sit at the sushi bar for good service!
  9. Kazu (I think thats the way his name is spelled) the head sushi chef, is the best in town.
  10. We were very impressed by the service and fresh sashimi.
  11. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful.
  12. Bad Service, bad sushi
  13. Great sushi, great service, great location.
  14. The fish quality is amazing and they were very open to personiling rolls for me!
  15. The sushi is mediocre at best with fish of questionable quality.
  16. Yes, a lot of the rolls have a wierd pink sauce on them, but its actually pretty tasty, and you can always ask to not have it on them if it bothers you.
  17. The sushi is barely passable, the service was severely lacking, the music was WAY too loud to have any sort of enjoyable conversation.
  18. Servers are nice and friendly, and even if they weren't I would still go just for the cuisine.
  19. Regardless, the sushi was still gross, swimming in mayo, and everything was overpriced anyway.
  20. Who would have thought that Eagle Rock would have good sushi?
  21. Neither a fun experience nor good food.
  22. the CD14 is tasty.
  23. Too many good sushi places in the city to visit here again.
  24. The fish was terrible and the service was worse.
  25. For dessert we were recommended the house specialty: fresh strawberry and banana tempura, with a dab of fresh whipped cream and dribbles of chocolate syrup.
  26. But buying extremely overpriced, under-fresh sushi was just too much.
  27. They have valet, and a cool sushi bar and nice decor (if you want to impress a special he/she).
  28. You must try the seared pepper-crusted tuna in their amazing lemon sauce.
  29. The calamari are always crispy and light, the sushi looks and tastes like a work of art, and the dessert (strawberry and banana tempura on whipped cream drizzled in chocolate sauce!)
  30. The sushi and sashimi is always good, and always seems fresh.
  31. The food was all terrible, the drink selection crappy and everything way overpriced.
  32. The food is fresh, delicious and served in an unusally tasty manner.
  33. The fish never looked fresh (we sent our tuna back because it looked so bad and even smelled a dreadful) and tasted just as bad.
  34. Mia truly has some of the best quality fish in town (& I've eaten almost everywhere) and the price isn't that different from most moderately priced establishments.
  35. was looking forward to having a nice upscale sushi place around here, too!
  36. Its the only place of its kind within 15 miles, and the sushi is great.
  37. There are so many great nearby sushi places in Pasadena or Little Tokyo or even Santa Monica that I would stay far, far away from Mia.
  38. One would expect to pay these prices in West LA for good sushi, but not in Eagle Rock for unimpressive, mediocre sushi.
  39. Overpriced, mediocre sushi, poor service
  40. love sushi.
  41. They both came with steamed rice, and a unique mixture of sauteed vegetables- bean sprouts, bok choi, and mushrooms.
  42. In fact, there have been times I've been disappointed because something is not available because the chef didn't like the quality of what was available for a particular fish.
  43. I've tried to like other places, but Mia has never been anything but yummy, fun, and a good experience.
  44. Living in Eagle Rock we were especially excited to give Mia a try as nothing would make us happier than a local fresh fish spot.
  45. The tuna was warm and fatty, the salmon oily and lord know what was wrong with the eel.
  46. We both love sushi and were excited for Eagle Rock to finally get it's very own sushi spot.
  47. The sushi was no where near as good as what we're used to having either in Studio City or in Pasadena, and the atmosphere was lousy to boot.
  48. Maybe if this place was in Santa Monica it would all be fine; the prices justified, the poor service typical, and the fish might even be fresh that close to the ocean.
  49. I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I have had enough of it to know when sushi is bad or good, and when I get the occasional sushi craving, I almost always head to Mia.

  12. Overpriced, mediocre sushi, poor service
  13. For the life of me I don't understand what people have enjoyed here and how anybody can give it a positive rating.
  14. The staff has always been friendly and fun.
  15. The service followed suit, with obnoxious waiters who are more interested in flirting with each other than running a restaurant.
  16. Maybe if this place was in Santa Monica it would all be fine; the prices justified, the poor service typical, and the fish might even be fresh that close to the ocean.
  17. Sit at the sushi bar for good service!
  18. The service, on the same hand, is HORRIBLE.
  19. Also obnoxious is the valet service when there is ample street parking just a few feet in front of the restaurant.
  20. To start, both times the valets were pushy and rude when we parked just in front of the restaurant and not with them.
  21. The fish was terrible and the service was worse.

Best food in town

Best food in town

Food is amazing. Every time I come here, I feel like I never want to leave. Very chic atmosphere with a relaxing mood.

The service is great and the staff really does a terrific job at taking care of you.

The appetizers are delicious.

Theres plenty of places to park: theres a parking lot across the street and a parkin garage up the street within walking distance.

Most of the time I find myself looking at my watch waiting for the food to come, but here I was so entertained with the fun atmosphere that I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived

Lame, Expensive

by bryanc

I'd stay away from this place. The prices out of control for the quality of sushi here, and the sushi itself is poor quality. It's got some lame fusion thing going on and they've done a poor job at actually fusing anything. Their dishes are often a mix of competing flavors that really provide only dissonance for your palate.

The only thing that this place has going for it is the ambience.

For those of you that "LOVE" this place, really? where are you from, ohio? get out to some other sushi places in LA. As a trained sushi chef i'm insulted by the some of the high ratings of this place.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this restaurant!

by mtwashtea

This is not your usual Japanese restaurant. It is 5 steps up! The food is fresh, delicious and served in an unusally tasty manner. The servers and staff are helpful and friendly and definately aim to please. We love this place even tho it is a little pricey, it is so worth it. And it is in our neighborhood of Eagle Rock!

delicious...

Kazu (I think thats the way his name is spelled) the head sushi chef, is the best in town. I dont even have to tell him what I want - with just a few visits, he already knows what I want. And if I am feeling adventurous, I let him suprise me with one of his special on the fly creations. This is my favorite local spot. I have brought in a few dates here and they were impressed with it all.

Suprisingly GREAT!

by SandiDee

I reluctantly suggested this place to my girlfriends for our girl's night out after reading a few negative comments on this page but felt compelled to go because I have heard that this place is actually good. I'm one to draw my own opinion. I'm glad I did! The food was delicious, the service was very attentive, and vibe was cool and no the music wasnt too loud - it was actually at just the right level. We will definitely go back.

  • Pros: Quality of the Sushi, Sushi Chefs are awesome, service is friendly
