Editorial Review for Spitz – by Martha Burr
In Short
A longtime European street-food sensation, the Turkish-born doner kebab has been introduced to the Eastside at this little hipster joint near Occidental college. An airy room pops in sage, ochre and purple tones, and there's a sweet front patio with flowers and umbrellas. Behind a glass counter, minced lamb, beef and chicken slow-roast on custom vertical broilers percolating their juices and 12 spices. Paper thin strips are shaved off and stuffed into panini-toasted foccacia with veggies and tzatziki sauce.

Insider Tips
ParkingOdds are not great at snagging one of the three spots in front--look for curb parking on Colorado or College View.
Save MoneySandwich meals--classic, chicken, falafel or veggie--include a drink and choice of sides like fried pita strips with hummus, thin-cut fries, sweet potato fries or a salad.
The ExtrasGourmet gelato is also available, with flavors like creme brulee, green tea, burgundy cherry and hazelnut espresso cheesecake. Additionally, there are fat-free sorbettos and organic coffee.

I just tried this place for the first time and I will definitely become a regular! I ordered the Falafelite, wow! It was so full of favor! Some vegetarian options at other places can be bland but wow everything at Spitz was exploding with flavor! If you like your food well seasoned then you'll love this place! The sweet potato fries were really good too! I ordered half fries, half sweet potato fries, which was a perfect combo of sweet and salty! Oh, and get a side of the greek yogurt sauce to dip your wrap and fries in!
Pros: Great food and fast & friendly service
Cons: Uneven floor on the outdoor dining patio

So, the whole "european" spin on this place intrigued me so I had to check it out, It was ok. Nothing spectacular. What I found out later was that Doner is actually glorified Shawerma (which is middle eastern) except Doner is hyper processed meat with less spices: so, you're getting less quality in the meat & less flavor (except for the flavor provided by filler & fat which is processed into the meat.) After I found this out, I decided the one time I had Doner would be the last: now I'm sticking to Shawerma instead: it's not processed, it has fantastic spices, and it doesn't pretend it's "european." (what about Turkey is european anyways!? the roots are seljuk/mongol & the culture is just as closed as any other muslim culture!)
