great aboveaverage food, friendly wait staff, favorite little restaurant, great neighborhood place, great key atmosphere, great wine, expensive airline food
best tapas i've had in LA. after falling in love with real tapas and pinxtos in spain a couple years ago, this place is refreshing. many so called tapas spots in LA are nothing like the real stuff. we enjoyed our meal here very much. i wouldn't say it was flawless, and the prices are a bit high (tho nothing compared to the exchange rate. sigh). salt cod dish was interesting. wine list was quite nice and we had help pairing with food. used to be free parking in back but it's gone now and replaced with valet. can be loud and for some reason, both times i've been in, there have been very young babies in strollers. doesn't really seem appropriate for a wine bar.
good....
Great for meeting friends, hangin' out and have one or more from their outstanding wine and beer list. I have not eaten here yet but will soon.
Great staff and comfortable surroundings.
Cool little wine bar. I like this small wine/tapas bar. The servers are passionate and knowledgeable about wine. The happy hour is a great way to sample the tapas menu. The decor is warm, inviting and romantic. If you sit in the outside patio, be prepared for the slow service. But overall its a fun, unpretentious bar that I keep going back to.
Overpriced!!!. My friend and I wanted to get a glass of wine so we decided to try Tasca the other night. In total, we had an app for $12, four glasses of wine for $7 each and one glass of wine for $9. Our bill was $77. I'm not the best at math but when I calculate this it comes out to $49. The waiter said it was because there were "tasting" charges and "glass" charges. Before we ordered two of the wines, he gave us a miniscule taste (which most good places do) and I'm praying that these "tastes" didn't total $28. He tried explaining the bill but we didn't' understand it and were so annoyed that we paid it and vowed to never go back again. I've had better food and wine at other winebars for less than $77, Disappointing because I really wanted to like this place.
Nice vibe, but overpriced & not that good.... Walked in for dinner around 7:30 on a Saturday night sans reservation, got seated right away. Nice host, charming waiter. Ambience lovely, good music, cozy lighting. Place filled up, seemed like a fun mixed crowd. But service really slow, food crawled out of the kitchen at a snails pace. The wine was good, but we had to drink a ton of it because our food wasn't arriving. In my mind the thing with Tapas is you order a bunch and the plates all just keep coming. Also food very salty, and honestly not that great - the 'moules frites' was really drab, kinda funky, and the fries were tough and bland. My husband ordered a large plate fish dish; super small portion, nothing else on the plate, no potatoes, no green beans nothing. For what we ended up spending, wouldn't go back. And I know it's 'Spanish Food', but seriously dismissive of vegetables, and practically nothing for Vegetarians. Too bad because we live in the hood...
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, GO TO A.O.C.!!!!. Celebrating a birthday at Tasca is just a horrible idea. Our group wasn't seated until nearly 10 PM, which was 40 minutes after our so-called reservation. The service was atrocious! We were very hungry but they refused to bring any bread until after we ordered (which took another 25 minutes). The server was pompous, insulting and could not answer simple questions in a straight forward manner. He was completely inattentive to our needs. Their dishes were overpriced and inconsistent. My brother and his girlfriend described their experience as eating "expensive airline food." The highlight of the evening was discovering a miniature crab in one of my mussels - no joke. I brought our displeasure to the attention of the Maitre D. But rather than try and smooth things over and make us feel appreciated or important he attempted to defend their horrible customer service. It was insulting! He could've cared less when I told him that I would never come back nor recommend the restaurant to anyone. Never before have I left a "nice" meal feeling like an idiot. But after my experience at Tasca I can't believe I wasted so much money and time at a place that clearly doesn't value my business. NEVER AGAIN!!!
I prefer Cobra's and Matador's. This place was just ok. I have been to several tapas places in Los Angeles and I found the tapas to be excessively overpriced for the extremely small portions, similar to the restaurant "Parc." The food was maybe a 7 out of 10. Cheese plate's are my favorite and I found their cheese plate to be quite mediocre. The one thing I must say about this place is that they do have an amazing wine selection so if you are a wino this is the place to be.
Delicious food, great customer service. Sit at the bar!. I adore Tasca. The food is delicious and inventive. It is always piping hot and fresh, and on top of that, the service is always cordial. The waitstaff and bartenders are always willing to answer questions and make suggestions as to what their favorite dishes are. They will also help you out if you have a hard time deciding what you'd like to eat. I would recommend trying to score a seat at the bar if you're eating with only one other person, as I think the tables put the diners too far apart from one another. It is also quite loud, so if you sit at the bar you'll have a better chance of hearing your dining partner. It's a nice place to go on a date with someone you really like...in other words, not first date material. It can get pricey, but it's not outrageous. The moules frites are delicious, served in a saffron broth. The duck confit is to die for. I found the pate plate a little disappointing simply because I preferred one pate over the other two we were served, but it's fun to try new things. And the bread is delicious. Pair things with wine, have a good conversation with your date and the waiter, and you're guaranteed to have a good time. Just remember...sitting at the bar makes a big difference!
Bustling Spanish tapas spot proffers small bites and small sips to a stylish local following..
The Scene
Tiny tea candles glint alongside silver flatware, ornate mirrors, and cinnamon-hued banquettes, adding an elegant sparkle to the small, cavernous space. Enamored couples linger at two-seater tables, while relaxed regulars swirl wine at the sommelier-manned bar. Plates arrive a la carte, sometimes at a slower-than-preferred pace--a shortcoming that is allayed by the earnest, charismatic servers.
The Food
Partitioned simply into small and large plates, the one-page menu offers both classic and inventive Spanish fare. Beyond requisite cheese and charcuterie plates, notable apps include aromatic saffron mussels, decadent black sausage, and a savory--though somewhat chewy--fava bean, ham and sherry saute. House-made angliotti is accented simply with sage, butter and harmonious black truffles. Short ribs are a house favorite, although the accompanying butternut ravioli in mascarpone sauce makes the dish more of a hearty meal than a light, sharable starter. Grilled pineapples and bananas make for a fresh, palate-cleansing finale.
Hits: Unprententious, affordable, flavorful fare is presented by friendly servers, and the wine list is inspired.
Misses: Although some crowds may enjoy the hubbub of a bustling bistro, those seeking intimate dining may feel suffocated on a Friday or Saturday night.
Great tapas, excellent service Try it!!!. I called to check on availability at 4pm on Saturday, and was told that may be I will be able to be seated at 10pm after a show I went to see with 2 other couples. Well, at 10 there were no space available inside, however, outside on the patio there was one corner free, where the owner set up 3 tables together and seated us within 5 minutes. Our waiter was great, attentive and gave us a lot of recommendations, so is the bus boy, food was excellent, we are all into tapas style now. Ceviche was excellent, so are the buratta cheese salad, tuna tartar (we ordered extra later), shrimp dish; service was outstanding. We did not order any drinks from the bar, but all had Sangria with raspberries and oranges. For dessert, the owner treated us to 4 different desserts; all were great, especially chocolate mousse. We had a wonderful time, and would return sometime very soon.
Impressive..... We had a reservation, but still had to wait about 20 minutes. However, the manager came over several times to check on us and was extremely cordial. The bartender was fantastic - wines were amazing, our group of 5 waited patiently. It makes a huge difference when someone is at least checking on you. After being seated, the waiter took his time and was extremely informative. Having recently moved here from NYC, this is the best service at a "trendy" spot so far. Yes, it is loud due to room design and the natural acoustics, but it was perfect for friends getting together for a well prepared meal and great wine. The braised short rib, steak frites and duck confit were cooked perfectly. The person who recomended the wine was fantastic as well, selecting and describing the perfect bottle for a group of 5. I am still getting to know the LA restaurant scene, but this was one of the best experiences so far....
